i have an ultralux 22 lr 455. great rifle.. shot it yesterday and cleaned today. I've never taken it out of the stock since i bought it about 2 yrs ago. as i was going to put it back in the safe i noticed that the action was loose in the stock for the first time. no big deal might as well put some CLP on the parts of the action and barrel that I've never had access to.
i had the hardest time figuring out why i couldn't stop the action from being loose in the stock as i reassembled it. ended up dimpling the bottom metal from torquing the screw too much, trying out flippping over another piece of the bottom metal under the trigger as i may have put it back wrong , trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result( hey isn't that one of the quips about insanity?). started thinking about getting washers from the hardware store, how much it would cost to bed the action, options for home made shims, clamping the stock and action before putting in the screws etc(my clamp was already out).
i then noticed the 2 screws for replacing the barrel. both had come loose and it was the free floated barrel that WAS loose and not the action ...DUUUUH!
At least i didn't do any permanent damage to my rifle. the bent bottom metal straightened out with a few whacks of a rubber mallet and a smooth suface.
