can you guys tell me where I can find USGI parts? I've got a Springfield GI .45, and I'd like to switch out the thumb safety, slide stop, and some of the MIM small parts with USGI parts, but my searches aren't coming up very fruitfull. I notice Marstar has a bunch of stuff available, and I assume they're Norinco parts. are these compatible quality-wise? some advise and links would be appreciated.

Parts

Lordy...If I knew where there was a supply of in-spec NOS or used USGI
parts, I'd have my charge card maxed out.:D

Meanwhile, Norinco small parts are very good, assuming that:
A...They're still made of the same stuff as the ones that came on the guns, and: B...They really are genuine Norinco parts.

Beware of Sarco's "USGI Replacement parts". They may look like the real deal, but might not be. Don't know about Numrich...I'll hafta go check out their website.

At this point in the game, I'd be wary of any USTGI part that looks a little too new or unused, even if they're genuine. many of the ones floating around are the ones that were rejected by the Military for being out of spec. Not also that some of the out-of-spec rejects could have been due to finish....but sometimes it went deeper than that.

Luck!

well, Tuner, if you say the Norinco parts are good, I suppose I'll order some. at least the thumb safety, slide stop, and maybe hammer. I'm thinking I'll go after market with the extractor (Ed Brown Hardcore, probably), sear, and disconnector. does that sound like a good plan? I want it to still look Milspec, but I need to be *sure* it's reliable, because it's my carry gun.

bah. never mind. the Norinco parts look the same as the ones on the springer now. they might be higher quality, but the design isn't what I'm looking for, and they're blued, not parked. the search continues.

Sorry, but I can't agree about the Norinco parts. I use to gut them, using the slide, frame, and barrel. I could never depend on the hardness of the rest of the parts. The grip safety, the thumb safety, and the slide stop are OK but I would replace the whole trigger group and use all new springs from Walt Wolff. The CMC trigger group with an Ed Brown hammer strut would do the job at a reasonable cost. The Hardcore extractor is a good choice, too. Good Luck!
