Does anyone have a HK USP45 without a manual safety. I like Glocks because all the safeties are passive and you can just go to work. Are there any HK USP45's in this same category? If so, please share. Post pics if possible showing the differences between the manual and passive safety HK's. Thanks.

yes the usp's have 9 variants i think, one of which is a DAO with no manual safety, there is also a LEM trigger which is basically the same thing. usp's are hammer fired not striker fired so a sa with no manual safety is generally a bad idea. sorry i don't have pics,Try HKpro.com for more info.

The LEM is what you want. The older style DAO on the USP is not a pleasant trigger. L-O-N-G and heavy. Not as bad as a stock Sigma, but not good either.

This is an old thread, but the passive safeties in the Glock simply assure you that the gun won't fire if you don't pull the trigger. H&K has internal safeties as well. The hard safety is in the same position as a 1911 and can be released upon draw.

The passive safety is like controlling a dead bolt with the door knob. You turn the knob. The door opens. What good is the deadbolt?

I believe it's a variant 5 but may be a var 7. It's a matter of changing out the safety detent plate and replacing the safety lever with a pin. Partsshould be available at CalSportinArmory.com.

Heads up, taking out the safety lever requires a night course and a good manual with pictures. It's like a Chinese Rubix Cube--get the PDF on USP disassembly and read it before you start, you'll see what I mean.

You could also go to DA/SA with decocker, no safety, to retain the advantage of the SA shot when needed.
