USPS Lost Package

I sold a mountain bike fork in December for $500 and shipped it via USPS insured for $500. It never made it to the buyer, and I went to my local PO where I shipped it to inquire about a claim. They couldn't initiate an insurance claim and referred me to the USPS website. After clicking several links there, it finally directs you to call a 1-800 number. I finally spoke to someone and they intiated the claim...I still had to submit all the supporting documents via the website (I included a copy of the online ad showing the fork and price, a copy of the Paypal transaction showing the amount the buyer sent, and my receipt from the PO w/ tacking number and insurance).

A couple of weeks later, I got a notice in the mail that the claim was denied because I didn't provide a copy of a receipt where I purchased the item originally. What the F?!

1. The fork was attached to a mountain bike originally and not purchased as a sererate item.
2. What if you sell an heriloom or a gift that you never actually "purchased", you're SOL as far as insurance reimbursement?

USPS insurance is a scam.

I have had USPS packages delivered to the wrong address. I have also had issues with FedEx and UPS, but FedEx has been the least disruptive to me.
I think my normal local UPS driver smokes dope or sniffed a lot of gasoline as a kid. He’s got the brains of an ice cube.
FedEx has been pretty good to me these past couple of years but there was a time when they delivered guns to the wrong address or put them somewhere they shouldn’t have (behind bushes) without the required signature.
UPS delivered a revolver to the wrong house once about 4 years ago. The lady of the house brought it to me as I was on the phone chewing out a UPS manager.
With USPS I had a bunch of AR parts get delivered to the wrong house. They were able to track them down and retrieve them for me.
Lately USPS has been really slow but they haven’t misplaced anything of mine. They just take a lot longer now.
I heard a news clip a while back that they need to raise rates again and they want tax monies to stay viable. Gimme a break!
