I sold a mountain bike fork in December for $500 and shipped it via USPS insured for $500. It never made it to the buyer, and I went to my local PO where I shipped it to inquire about a claim. They couldn't initiate an insurance claim and referred me to the USPS website. After clicking several links there, it finally directs you to call a 1-800 number. I finally spoke to someone and they intiated the claim...I still had to submit all the supporting documents via the website (I included a copy of the online ad showing the fork and price, a copy of the Paypal transaction showing the amount the buyer sent, and my receipt from the PO w/ tacking number and insurance).
A couple of weeks later, I got a notice in the mail that the claim was denied because I didn't provide a copy of a receipt where I purchased the item originally. What the F?!
1. The fork was attached to a mountain bike originally and not purchased as a sererate item.
2. What if you sell an heriloom or a gift that you never actually "purchased", you're SOL as far as insurance reimbursement?
USPS insurance is a scam.
