the local gun shop has a nice stainless king cobra .357 with a 6" barrel. it is in very good condition with the cylinder line showing some use, but no dings or scratches on the rest of the gun. everything is tight, and it looks used, but well taken care of.

the original owner had the sights removed to put on a scope. it appears the smith used the original sight screw holes to mount the scope rail. the sights were never returned to him by the fellow doing the work some years ago. since then the scope and rail have been used on another gun.

can original sights be had (and at what cost)? is their a better sight alternative?

what would be an aproximate value for the gun with and without the sights??

I don't know about what you would expect to pay for sights, but around here King Cobra's in good to very good condition go for between $600 & $700.

My dealer of choice has a very nice one on his shelf now for $600.

First, find the sights -- you can try gunparts and Midway. Then subtract the price of the sights from $600, and knock off another $50 to $100 because the gun isn't "all original."

The Colt revolvers with adjustable rear sights from the late 50s on all used the same rear sights. The Accro was the standard adjustable rear sight, and the Elliason was the upgraded one. Both will fit the same frame cutout. So an adjustable sight from any Colt Trooper/Python/Diamondback/Anaconda/etc made in the late 50s onward should work. (The earliest Accro sights in the mid 50s had a rounded instead of square front, and wouldn't fit a King Cobra). I did something similar myself, used a King Cobra's rear sight to replace the missing one on a Python that someone had scoped like the King Cobra you mentioned.

You can find Accros and Elliasons on the usual auction sites, as well as Elliason knock offs. Be careful on the Elliason sights, if they say "Elliason type" they are probably not a true Colt Elliason, but they are cheap, usually only running $30ish.

Millet makes a replacement rear sight that's pretty good. Midway has them for $40. I'm sure other places have them as well.

If your front sight is also gone, Millet makes those too, but I think you have to drill the pin hole through it yourself. (?). Otherwise try auction sites, Brownells or Numrich for Colt parts. The front sights are not as universal as the rears, so make sure they're for a King Cobra.

You should also be able to get the parts direct from Colt, but that's probably the most expensive option.

As far as value, I'd probably try to get them to knock off $100 or so for its lack of sights.
