I know the new one is the medalist my even be there Alaskan one. But think the old one can put before they used aluminum?. The 06 by my dad felt nice when I looked at it for th few seconds. I really need a ss gun for next deer season, seems like the weather gets worse every year. The win70ew is high on the list next to the kimber Montana.

I know. For that reason I’ll keep my opinions on the “scout rifle” concept to myself

Ditto.. By listening at deer camp to the caliber debates; I learned to stay out of it even when I had a junior hunting license. Even a kid knew better to get into deer camp caliber debates. My blah blah is better than your blah blah and both of them had a nice deer hanging.

In the thick East coast forests, my Marlin 336C in 35R harvested as many or more deer than the others in the safe. Not that it was any better than; it was my first factory deer rifle.

I'm pretty sure the EW has always had a Medalists stock, at least my older version did, and my two most recent EWs from '16 did as well. My later EWs were both .308s, and I thought the stock felt a little different (better) than the B&C stock on my earlier '06. I emailed B&C to see if there had been any changes to the EW stock and they replied that the Medalist Ultralight was the stock that they had always supplied to Winchester, and that the way they manufactur the stock had not changed since they introduced it. The difference in feel I noticed must have just been SA vs LA stocks.

I sold it today for $700. I think that was fair. Now I’ve got a Kimber 84M Classic in 308 and a Remington Mountain Rifle in 280 Rem to move and I’ll be ready to buy my Bergara 300 WM.

I just read through this thread and decided to post a personal plea :)

Marksman 13 I'd appreciate it if when you get your Bergara Approach rifle that you tell us all about it with as many pics and video as your willing to upload. That's the exact model (albeit I am planning on getting 7mm-08) that I've zeroed in on purchasing. Looks fantastic but I've never held one or seen one in person and there isn't a ton of footage or reviews on them to ogle at.

I can give you an honest review based on my buddy’s Approach in 6.5 CM. It is a good feeling rifle that shoots pretty darn well for a factory rifle. I’ve actually found a Bergara HMR in a Grayboe stock locally that I may purchase instead simply because I have some weird history with it. When I was having my Falkor cerakoted, I did a google image search to find some ideas for camo patterns. Found a rifle I liked and sent the guy doing the work the photo from google images. Checking my local gun trading page on FB today and lo and behold, there’s the exact picture I had saved on my phone. Turns out an acquaintance of mine owns that rifle and has it for sale. Pretty crazy.

I have no idea how you guys know one model 70 from another???
I bought the only model 70 that I have ever owned from a friend who needed the money.
I tried to look it up with what is stamped on the rifle but unlike Ford or Chevy there is no make & model
just the mfg, it says WINCHESTER MODEL 70 - 7mm REM MAG & nothing else!
Like new, didn't even shoot it like I usually do, he wanted $400 so that is what I gave him.
Me & my son tried to add up how many deer it has killed since I bought it back in 2003, then there
is my other son that used it as well so we gave up. I just remembered, my wife used it until she
couldn't stand the recoil any more, now she has taken my 7mm 08 Savage & guess what--- it has
SAVAGE-MODEL 11 stamped right on the side of it.

Last year, I shot a deer with a M70 EW in .270 caliber three times at about 175 yards. All shots hit center chest; when each recoil settled, I could see thru my scope that the bullet had mushroomed on the chest cavity exterior, then slid off the chest and onto the ground - the deer seemed to have a little smirk on it’s face after every shot. I have since switched to a 6.5 this year, the deer now run screaming in horror from the woods when they see my approach - now I get the respect I deserve from that filthy, split-hoofed vermin!
