The worst varmints here in Wyoming are wolves.
North Yellowstone elk herd is down from 21,000 to 4100 since wolf reintro.
CoRoMo, you can take all you want.

I appreciate urban wildlife but the fat squirrels around here make my beagles CRAZY (and they don't need much help). Can't shoot them in town. Not even with an air rifle.

Prarie dogs seem to be the popular varmint out here.

Around my home we've got a very dense population of Armadillos and while some may consider these critters to be harmless they can flat out destroy a well kept/tended yard and are pretty tough to eradicate effectivly. All in all I've developed a profound hatred for these nearly worthless animals.

'dillos spread disease too. They're much worse than possums and raccoons. They dig up almost anything I plant in their search for grubs, and they leave a stink in the air. I despise the creatures with a passion.

In SW Oklahoma the principal varmints are coyotes, wild hogs and feral dogs, in that order.

There are roughly one million elk roaming the North American continent. And roughly one third of them are in this state.

So to answer your questions... we have many. In some places, way too many.

Wait till the wolves get well established down there.
Then you'll see your elk numbers drop, till you hardly have enough to hunt.
Course your deer will disappear first.

I was just trying to say that I live in a populated area and the
CB .22 short is the only bullet to use. It has given me several
one shot kills using my single shot Marlin 915ys

Pests around my areas aren't too bad just gophers which are easily remedied with conibears and feral cats that run rampant.

I live on 6 square mile island with no coyotes.
Just off island coyotes will kill any chicken outside of a pen.
Here on the island, a chicken can out run a raccoon in the daytime.
But chickens must be penned up at night.
The roost cannot be too close to large screen, or the raccoons will reach through and pull the chicken's head off.
Sometimes raccoons, squirrels, rats, mice, flies, hornets, or mosquitoes come into the house.

100 years ago, with 6 sq miles of woods, the island probably supported a dozen raccoons.
But now with 20,000 people putting out dog dishes, cat dishes, garbage cans, fruit trees, and gardens... there are hundreds of raccoons here... and they are pests. Every house on our street has raccoon guards on the chimney.

If you can't kill them build one of these. At least you'll have fun driving them crazy.

Tree rats are the biggest problem around here. Naturally, we have a crazy lady next door that thinks they're cute and feeds them. I balance the equation by cautious and fruitful application of a .177 caliber air-driven round ball (AKA BB) whenever the opportunity presents itself. The bodies are not wasted though. I use the tails for material for streamer flies.

Also have a possum family living under the deck. Ol' ma possum is a monster and provides me with a whole litter of babies every year. The little ones are cute, in a ratty sort of way, but invariably grow up into a major garden-destroying pest. Thank Heaven for super Colibri's and an accurate rifle.

My location is north-central Texas, adjacent to a pair of large cities, exact locale withheld to prevent prosecution of the guilty.
