Tomorrow night, Thursday, July 22nd, VCDL's regular monthly
membership meeting will be held at the Mason Government center at 8
PM (fellowship starts at 7:30 PM). As always, the meeting is open to
the public. Directions are on the VCDL web site.

Because of the firestorm (really a tempest in a teakettle) in NoVA
over open carry, we have a full agenda. Following the meeting we
will adjourn to a local restaurant for continued fellowship as is our
usual custom.

*** There's a good possibility that the press may be at this meeting
and at the restaurant ***

If members of the press do show up, I am going to ask them not to
film during the meeting (avoiding the disruptions and distractions
that filming inevitably entails). Should the press be filming before
or after the meeting, and you wish not to be filmed, you will need to
let the press know that.

More than likely the press will want to interview some of you.

That being the case, and although most of you already know this, I
need to make sure that VCDL's policy on representing the organization
is clear to everyone. As far as speaking for VCDL as an organization
- it's polices, beliefs, plans, etc. - only the president can do
that. Not even the vice president or anyone on the Board of
Directors can speak for VCDL. So be sure it is always clear to the
press that you are speaking only for yourself and NOT the
organization.

Do remember these words to the wise if you agree to be interviewed
(and you can always politely decline): you MUST ASSUME that whatever
you say can, and will, be used against you in the future.

A final reminder: as you should know, VCDL has a standing policy on
handling firearms at all VCDL activities.

See: http://www.vcdl.org/static/safety.html

If the press attends, they may not be aware of this policy and may
want you to handle your firearm (if you bring one). The answer, as
always, is "No." They can go to a shooting range should they desire
to film people handling guns.

I'll see you there!

Everything that I have ever read about the VCDL makes me think that it is one of the best RKBA state level groups in the nation. I am way up in WI, but I still subscribe to their email newsletter.
