Well, first, I was looking at Saigas. Now I am looking at Vector's AKs. How good are they? Are they to be avoided?

What about Lancaster Consulting?

Vector does a very good job on their AKs. The only real complaint I have heard about them is that they are no longer using chrome lined barrels. You might want to give them a call to confirm that. Otherwise I have heard nothing but praise.

I have a Vector AK-47 Underfolder. The rifle is excellent and shoots nicely.

Observations/Facts on mine:

1. It was purchased about 3 years ago.
2. It DOES have a chrome-lined bore.
3. It was buit from a Polish parts kit, but the bore looked pristine.
4. The rifle is parkerized.
5. Parked rifles WILL rust if you let them. However, Park is a great base for Duracoat. I will be duracoating that sucker eventually.
6. The Vector rifles DO NOT have a side-mount optics rail.
7. Vector Rifles have a 5 year warranty.
8. My Vector uses a Tapco G2 Single hook trigger group that breaks clean and crisp.

Hope that helps.

Vector's and Lancaster's AK types are not bad at all. They're a step up from Century's WASRs, but how much though compared to Arsenal's Bulgarian kit guns I couldn't really say. They're kit builds though put together by some decent hands. I just picked up a Lancaster that I'm pretty happy with. If you're looking for some sort of review I found some helpful info on the Lancasters on AR15.com.

I believe that Vector stopped using chrome lined barrels about three or four months ago, if not more recently. Apparently it is a consequence of the barrel ban.

Number 6 is on to the right idea. I understand that none of the US barrels that the AK guys are using are chrome lined yet... if they ever will be.

Thanks for the info guys. Seems like I'll be saving up a bit more and getting the Vector instead of the Saiga.

I can work around the lack of lining. I clean my guns after every outing... no big problem for me.
