Hi:
Looking for owner or user opinions / reviews of how Vector underfolding stocks perform vs. wooden stocks on their AK47s.
How does the underfolder handle recoil?
How does it lock into place and is it tight or loose?
Can the rifle be fired in pistol fashion with the stock folded away?
How well does it clear a 30 rd mag when you fold it?
Are you happy with yours, or if you had it to do over again would you go a different route (side folder, full wood / poly stock)?
Any and all opinions, good or bad are welcome.
Thanks!

A lot of people don't like the underfolders due to poor cheek weld and kind of shaky locking, but I personally don't mind them. You can improve the cheek weld by wrapping 550 cord or thin foam around the left hand arm of the stock, if it does bother you.

Recoil is not, to me, any more than you get with a standard AK.

The rifle can be fired with the stock folded.

The stock clears the magazine fine when the butt is folded flat (which is how it is supposed to work).

As noted, I don't mind the underfolder on my Yugo. I would have preferred one of the Russian side folder options or the East German/Polish pattern wire stock, but for the price that wasn't an option. The one downside is that the underfolder receiver is set up a little different than all the other options, so switching it to a different stock option is a major undertaking.

Hi Ratbert.

I have a Vector AK-47 underfolder. I'll see if I can give any help:

Wood stock will always be more comfortable. However, I don't find the underfolder uncomfortable per se.

I really don't notice recoil from any AK. The Vector is no different.

All underfolders have a little bit of play-- or will soon. It isn't too bad, and it is possible to tighten one up.

Yes. Make sure you have already put the safety in the fire position, however. I use my Vector as my "Jeep" gun as well as SD. When it is in my Jeep, I keep the safety on "Fire" but do not chamber a round. Its faster to just chamber a round that get the saftey off.

How well does it clear a 30 rd mag when you fold it?

It clears a 30 round magazine fine. However, it will NOT clear a 40 round magazine.

I absolutely love mine. It was built on a Polish parts kit, and looked never used. I have the polymer stock on mine, but I will be putting a wood set on it just for a more traditional look. I've have other AKs and I put this one up with the best of them in terms of stamped AK's.

Never used an underfolder, but I have a side folding wire-type stock on my 74. I think I prefer the full stock. I doubt I would ever shoot with it folded if I had a choice and the AK rifles have short stocks to begin with. The cheek weld issue is there also. It makes bench shooting difficult.
