The South African Vektor company has announced a recall/DON'T shoot notice for the Vektor CP1 and CP1N pistols.

What's weird.....this isn't a "fix" recall, they're buying back all Vektor pistols.
They are offering a reimbursement and a incentive price.

If they are doing that (buying them back) the problem must cost more to fix that it is to buy them back and destroy them. The manufacturing cost must really have been very low on this weapon to make it worth while to buy them back instead of fixing them.

Now, the collectors prices will really go through the roof. Just don't ever try to load one up and shoot it.

I had heard that the recall had something to do with the weapon firing when dropped but perhaps other safety issues are now involved. Anyone out there have any more info on this recall as to what all of the problems were or was it just a fire when dropped issue.

Just curious while being stranded at outpost no. 9

The ad in The American Rifleman said "could fire if dropped or bumped".

In this case I would suspect the problem is endemic to the design, and possibly CAN'T be fixed.

Also, I think they stopped importing these a year or so ago, so maybe they decided to just cut their loss from more problems later.

Strange but my dealer told me quite a while ago (a year, possibly more) that the Vector's were discontinued/recalled and that he received a notice to stop sales immediately. He pulled the last few out of inventory (don't know if he sent them back or what) and said he couldn't sell them. I thought this issue was over a long time ago. Hmmmmm.............

All this allegedly over a drop safety hiccup...

(You'd think that every Jennings, Lorcin, Hi Point, Baby Browning, and various other striker-fired single actions would be 86ed by their makers for the same reason if that was the only case... Wonder why Vektor was the only one. Ten bucks says some idjit zapped himself with one and Vektor USA got sued; what do y'all think? )

WR9,
The manufacturing cost must really have been very low on this weapon to make it worth while to buy them back instead of fixing them.

Yeah, that's why Ruger converts any three-screw you send them; because their time is so cheap... Oh, that and the fact that it was part of the lawsuit settlement...

I doubt it's something minor. If they're spending all the cash to buy their product there must be something inherently wrong with it. As per standard practice we're only getting the tip of the truth.

Do any of you guys know how much they are buying them back for?

I spotted on at a local pawn shop, and was thinking maybe I could make a buck or two.

Also, will their be any collectors value?

Steve

While you're heading into the pawnshop, GunNut, perhaps you might get lucky enough to slip and fall . . . . Come on, man; the company is trying to do the right thing, and you're looking to make a profit? Why not be a mensch and tell the owner of the pawn shop about the recall?

Erich,

Why don't you keep your opinions to your self.:cuss:

You want me to feel bad for people who prey on the poor and addicted.

Last time I overheard a pawnshop owner, he said he would only pawn/buy things he could sell for 3 times what he paid.

66% Mark up.......Bet my local gun shop owner wishes he could make that.

So, no I will not feel sorry for the local "loan Shark."

Steve

i dont think its the pawn shop owner he's worried about. more likely it is the unsuspecting customer who buys the gun and ends up shooting his kid in an accident.

and since this is a forum devoted to the free expression of ideas and opinions i dont think he's out of line either.

if you wish, go ahead and buy the gun. i will bet hard earned money that you wont make a profit by reselling it to the factory, who will almost certainly give pennies on the dollar.

Hey, man, we all have a responsibility to let our friends know when we think they're doing something out of line.

I shouldn't have been sarcastic when I posted, but I don't think it's right to go out of one's way to position oneself to profit off someone else's misfortune.

I'm sorry I was sarcastic; that was out of line.

Erich,

No hard feelings here.

It's just as a salesman, I alway buy low and sell high, and am always looking for a deal. Gun money is tight and I've got to make every opportunity count.

Vektor has offered to pay $500 to whomever owns a CP1 or CP1N.

Now if the pawnshop had offered to send the gun to Vektor for the $360 they wanted from me and let Vektor keep the $140 I'd have gone for that.:D

I figured everyone would come out better by me picking it up and sending it back to the factory.

State of Washington gets $27.72 in tax revenue.

Pawn Shop gets $100-150 in profit.

I get $113.00, which in turn my local gun shop will get and the state will get more sales tax money.

Plus, no one will end up getting hurt. I figured I had the knowledge, and should be the one to gain.

Steve

P.S. The pawn shop owner had a huge grin on his face after I gave him my $387.72:D

Notos&w,

I should have mentioned, that I had already told the pawnshop last week the gun was recalled.

If he were so concerned about Joe Blow shooting his kid he would have checked it out. But he wasn't.

Don't worry about sending me your hard earned cash, just go spend what you owe me at your local gun shop.

im man enough to admit when im wrong. so if you get $500, or more than you paid, you have my permission to post here explicitly saying i was wrong. can anyone verify that Vektor is actually paying $500 for these guns - how much did the originally cost?

you did the right thing by telling the owner the gun was recalled. too bad he wouldnt do the stand up thing and further investigate it, even if for no other reason than his own liability.

im glad that the gun is being returned where no innocent victim will be hurt and everyone is the better for it.

notos&w,

I already called Vektor (or atleast the agent in charge of the recall). The gun w/factory box and 2 magazines will get you $400 for the gun and an incentive of $100 for returning it, for a total of $500.

I'm guessing they couldn't have been that much when new.

Steve

GunNut,

Four & change, IIRC. I seem to recall that price from the days I worked at an FFL that happened to prey on the poor and addicted. ;) (We also made loans to people who needed money but couldn't get it from a bank... :p)

Tamara,

That's what relatives are for.......:neener:

I have to believe in some areas, that pawn shops and gun stores co-exist.

But in my area, there is only one pawn shop that actually sells new guns. Kimbers and Glocks. I'm buying a Customized Colt Combat Commander from him right now.

The rest just sell the junk, they pawn.

Vektor

Poor way of doing business GunNut. You should get a real job and earn your money. Taking advantage of someone is why this country is going to hell in a handbag. :fire:

Pathfinder,

Come on now, get a life.......who got taken advantage of?

The poor pawnshop owner.....hell no.

The Vektor company....hell no they are offering to pay $500.

Taking advantage of the government is why this country is going to hell in a hand basket, free enterprise is what will bring this country back to where it once was.

I've got a great job, that permits me time to find this and other great deals. How about a New in Box Sig Sauer P220 w/2 magazines for $450.

Same dealer, should I go give him more money for that gun. Did I take advantage of him or the situation???????

NEXT......

Back to the gun. I lived right by the importer. When he stripped it I recall the it did not have a pin block and it had an enclosed hammer that is normally cocked (SA). If there was no half cock as well, the hammer would fall and fire if the sear was bumped or broken.

Otherwise, the general design and execution of the gun was very nice. I would've at least considered it, but at the time the safety question kind of stuck in my mind.

The Vektor SP series, based on the Beretta 92, were pretty neat and set up for competition. Have never seen one outside of the importers shop. Still have the brochure, though.

Just checked Gunbroker. Here's either a fraud or felony:
