Vepr 308 922R question

Here's my question:
If you have a vepr 308, and you convert from the wooden thumbhole stock to a pistol grip and sidefolding stock. Do you have to then comply with 922R? Keep in mind the only mags available are 10 rounds or less for this rifle.

Thing is why would you? Those side folders might not stand up to repeated 308 recoil and that stock is actually pretty ergonomic and attractive.

Since it's an imported semiautomatic rifle with a detachable magazine, yes I think 922R would apply.
