I prefer a proper leather holster.
Having used holsters of Nylon, Kydex, and whatever the black suede-looking material Uncle Mike's and Bianchi used for clip-on IWB holsters, leather works best.
Kydex is my second choice.
I do have a Safariland duty holster for a 5906 that is 2 layers of leather that appear to be sandwiching a layer of Kydex (for stiffness) that I like a lot.
Not a cop. Bought some duty holsters (Safariland, Bianchi, and Don Hume) because they are all LH (like me) and because they were $10 police trade-ins. Condition ranges from new in the package to excellent condition. They work fine for woods-loafing, hunting backup, etc.
Well designed/made, and protect the gun well. Plus, the gun won't fall out of any of them, especially the Don Hume. That is one heck of a retention holster.
Unsnap the thumb break. Unsnap the strap that runs around the semi-open front. Draw gun with a forward/upward movement. Takes some getting used to, but not bad at all.
Absolutely secure retention.
IMO, retention is the most important aspect of a holster. If it doesn't securely retain you pistol, it's a liability.
