Vortex scope for a Rifle

.....but to discount something good just because you haven't heard of it could leave you missing out on something.
True but a great scope with a wonderful warranty does you no good if you have an issue and the company has gone out of business. Not a big deal on a $200 scope but significant if it's ten times that much. May or may not be a dealbreaker but it's something to consider.

...anyone who refuses to put these optics on par with higher end stuff has obviously never used one, or are snobs.
Or you just think that a product should stand the test of time before it is put on par with those that have. And for the record, a handful of anonymous internet posters saying that they have had X-brand scope for a couple years and that it has served them well is meaningless to me. Because you can find folks that say that about anything. Be it Tasco or Zeiss.

I also put very little stock in written warranties. Because I'd much rather have something of quality with zero warranty (Ruger) than something cheap with a wonderful warranty (Henry). Warranties are more marketing tools than anything.

This Vortex Razor has served me very well, and there is almost nothing I would change about it. To my eyes the glass is on par with the premier heritage that I had. I hasn't broken down like the Premier did, and I'm sure the warranty, if needed, will be better.

I break alot of scopes so we will see how this holds up over a few years. It isn't leaving my 6.5x47 anytime soon.

A side note about glass, but I recall hearing someplace that all optics grade glass is either made in japan or germany, and that there are only a couple companies that make it. What it really comes down to is how precisely the glass is ground and what sort of crazy-complicated-ultra-high-tech coatings they put on the glass.

pdd614, what made you go for the Razor rather than the likes of Nightforce or U.S. Optics?

I'm asking because I was planning to get a higher magnification scope. I like my present Nightforce so much, that it was almost something that I didn't even think about. I was just going to get another Nightforce. I am considering the F1. I'm finding the Razor interesting though.

Sky, you should have tried a different vendor. cameraland has the same scope same price as swfa and when I bought my viper they threw in a free hat and coffee. good service too.

cdnn and swfa are great places but if you make a big purchase sales tax will eat you alive.

Tony, alot of the guys I shoot with shoot either nightforce or schmidt bender. I tried out an F1 for a while, and while it was fine, I just wanted something a little different. The S&B was a no go from the beginning due to the illumination knob placement.
I originally went with the premier heritage, but that didn't last long. So I took a chance and bought this Razor, and it turns out to be a hell of a nice scope. Couldn't be happier, unless S&B relocates the illumination knob.

Greyling22 thanks for the info!! I should be used to paying to much but it still gets my goat!!

I just sprung on a Viper...it and my new rifle should be here in the middle of the week...hopefully I can post good things about it

my remount was unsuccessful. I'm going to have to find a bore sighter and play around until I can get on paper. I really can't blame the scope at this point. I could very well just be mounting wrong. it sure looks good as far as the glass goes.

pdd614, I ran into a guy today at the range that was telling me that his son sold two rifles to buy the Razor. He says it's a REALLY nice scope. It just so happens that my local dealer carries both Nightforce and Vortex. He's an upscale dealer and the only Vortex products he stocks are their binocs and the Razors. It's gonna be a tough decision.

Well I am a big Vortex Optics fan! Every thing i have ever looked through of theirs has been very clear and clean. I have owned 2 Vortex Strikefire red dots and one of them I had to replace the lens cap on because the seal tore and they ended up replacing the whole scope for free!

Great customer service, they did not even blink an eye when I emailed them for help. The responded within an hour and i had it shipped to them the same day. Hard to beat great customer service. I would rather buy from a company that has superior customer service who will answer any question or solve a problem for you at any time, than to buy from a company who will shut you down or put you on hold for hours and hours just to answer a simple little question.

A+ for Vortex!

-M.W.

I recently bought a Super Sniper 10X42. After having gotten the scope and taking it out to the range, I'm really wishing that I had gotten the Vortex scope.

The Vortex I ordered came the other day. I have not mounted it on anything yet, but have played around with it outside. It is quite nice. Very clear and the controls are smooth. The real test will be to actually shoot with it for a prolonged shooting session and see how it does.

Vortex Viper should be here today and the rifle should arrive tomorrow at the FFL. Seems like stuff takes forever! Will try to do one of my less than professional reviews. At least it is heart felt; pay me and I will do better!

Got a scope and rifle in the mail also. I'm really looking forward to getting them both and hitting the range. I should have the Savage on Wed-Thurs and the scope on Thurs-Fri

I have been pretty impressed w/ the Vortex line up. I currently use the Razor HD spotting scope because you can get an eyepiece w/ a Mil- reticle. Additionally, I have bought a pair of their binos which are very clear & durable. I am now in the market for a high end rifle scope & I am having a hard time justifying spending the $2K on their Razor HD 5-20 vs spending a little more for a USO or the S&B 5X25. I realize the S&B are 1K more; however, I have 3 which have performed flawlessly over the years

Club member I shoot with every Thursday evening told me to look at Vortex first and then Weaver for our sport. My old Simmons Mag 44 became unreliable. Last month I bought the Viper, 6.5-20 x 44 with DOT/Varmit and the optics is clear as a bell and bright. Scope was on sale at Midwest for almost 1/2 price due to Vortex replacing the line in the Spring. Happy I bought the Vortex.
