Howdy guys and gals

Was hoping to glean a little personal experience with Vortex scopes from some of you who have actually shot their rifles with it. I am in the market to get a decent glass and was wondering what people think about Vortex. I normally use other scopes but I would really like some personal insight.

Thanks

Its primary use will be sitting on top of a Savage Model 10 FCP-SR if that makes any difference.

you might want to be more specific about which line you're interested in. quite a big difference in quality from the PST to razor HD

(my vortex optics have been great! highly recommend them, but they have been HD. I don't have much experience with the cheaper PST line but my friends seem to like them, cause they keep buying them)

you might also want to mention what type of shooting you are doing.

i have the 4-16 ffp viper pst on one of my rifles and have been totally satisfied with it.

Sorry for lack of clarity... I will mostly be using this rifle on coyote shaped varmits out to ranges of 600-800 yards. But I am also considering another scope to replace my Burris LCR on my AR. I like the scope but I am ready for a little higher magnification and am just looking at quality of this specific brand. Do you think their scopes compete well with scopes in the same price range? Better? Worse? I do alot of rifle work but most without scopes or at short distances. Hopes this clarifies some.

Oh by looking at the Product lines I am interested in their Viper series...

Forgive me Taliv, I get a little distracted when I am trying to weed out the folks that are just going to ignore my question and recommend their "go-to" product! You know how it is... I am looking at all lines but the viper line seems to be the most attractive glass they have. 4x16 seems...useful

my experience has been that you get quite good glass for the money. if you like the features/reticle offered, you be hard pressed to find better optics in the same price range. add to that a dandy of a warranty.

I have the 4-12x50 Diamondback on my deer rifle. It's a decent scope for the money and serves that purpose well. It would be inadequate for the distances you want.

I don't own a Viper, but I think it would be an appropriate step up.

I have one of the cheaper Crossfire series scopes. I have my rifle zero'd at 100 and I regularly adjust the elevation to shoot out to 300 and when I bring it back to 100 yard zero, its dead on.. The reset to zero turrets require the use of an Allen wrench, which is okay with me.. Some other optics I have don't require the use of a wrench. I would buy another Vortex in a heartbeat, but I'm not loyal to any certain brand of optic just yet....

If the low end can hold zero and has bright enough glass then I may not be making a mistake for a slightly higher priced unit. How would you rate overall craftsmanship?

I have the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40. It's seen use on ARs, .308 bolt guns, and a .243 bolt gun. Dropped, fallen on, and banged around and it never lost zero once. I'm looking to mount it on my Mini-14 now. I have a Redfield Battlezone 3-9x42 that is back on my .308. I've been looking to change it but it works so well I'm thinking I won't. You do get some weird gold tinge rarely in very bright sunlight but you never lose the reticle.

The glass is clearer on it than my Vortex, even though I gave up some magnification the RF is just better. It also has 2 dials for shooting out to 500 with .223 and .308 if spinning dials are your thing. Plus you can actually use it to range a target with the tac-moa reticle. Warranty is a dead heat, Leupold (owner of RF) and Vortex have stellar customer service. I hear the Redfield Revolution scopes are even better than the other RF lines. Just like the Viper and Razor line from Vortex are better. The prices are on the lower end for both and I wouldn't shy anyone away from either company.

I'm a budget hound. If I find something that works well for me I tell others about it. Everyone loves a bargain and with RF and Vortex you get more than what you paid for. Also don't just look at Vortex, Leupold has some very affordable scopes that are just excellent like the Leupold 6-18x40 Mark AR MOD 1 Riflescope that can be had for $550 at swfa.com. My buddy has one and just loves it. If you are not using a rangefinder then I would suggest a moa or mildot reticle.

Now that I'm thinking of it I just ordered the Primary Arms 1-6x24 ACSS reticle with a 30mm tube. It looks to be shaping up as a very nice bang for the buck lower powered optic. I might do a review when I get it in. Good luck with your scope hunt!

I have a couple of Vipers (A 2X7 on a hunting rifle, and a 6.5X20 FCD on a varmint rifle.), and they are pretty good glass/scopes for the money. They haven't wowed me, but I am happy with them. I bought both on closeout and for that money they were a great value.

I bought a Diamondback 3.5-10x50 this past spring for my deer rifle. I haven't got to hunt with it yet but I have gotten it on the rifle & zeroed. It is a nice step up from the Tasco World Class that had been on there since the mid 90's. It is a lot clearer & brighter. The fact it was only $209 didn't hurt either.

I have two Crossfire II (2-7x32): one on a .50 Cal muzzle loader, and another on a Ruger 10/22. Neither have given any troubles of any kind.

Close friend is shooting a custom build Class F rifle (6.5 Creedmore), topped with a PST 2.5-10x44 and he loves that scope. He has another ordered for his new AR-10.

Both of us are pleased with the brand and quality. The lesser quality Crossfire IIs have had some fairly extensive hunting use and have not failed to hold zero. They are only 2-3 years old, so durability over time is still being gauged. So far. . . so good!

All are good values for the features offered at their price points. You'd have to spend a lot more to get significant improvement in my opinion.

I've had a Vortex Viper PST 4-16 x 50 on top of my Remmy 700. It's a pretty decent glass for the price.

FFP, Illuminated Reticle, Mil/Mil reticle/turrets that are finger adjustable with turn stop spacers.

I have heard that some folks are having issues with breakage on magnum rifles with muzzle breaks, but so far, mine's been holding up great on my .308

Their customer service is reported to be top notch. (I have not had to use it but it did factor into my decision to buy one.)

4-16x50 Viper HS on a 6.5 Grendel. Loved the scoped but sold the whole package to get boat replacement funds.

Awesome guys, thanks! Its nice getting feedback that is actually constructive... Anyways... The reason I am looking so close at Vortex scopes is because the only gun shop in my town is a merchandiser for Vortex so naturally he only carries Vortex. The next nearest shop is 160 miles away and I would really like to look at the scopes myself before buying. Since it has been established on this thread that Vortex dependable enough for most applications then I will probably buy one. I will post pictures on my final decision in a couple week. (I only get paid once a month)

+1 to walkalong and back40. good glass for the price, great warranty, nothing particularly groundbreaking or amazing compared to similarly priced scopes. Try and find one on clearance. I had a viper 4-12x40 that I replaced with a sightron s1 hunter. It is not as good, but it is cheaper and I needed money :)

I had a Diamondback briefly. The glass is as good or better than most any of the other $200 scopes, but other features were deal killers for me. Eye relief is a bit short and it gave a tunnel vision effect when looking through the scope.

The glass is no better or worse, but in the same price range I much prefer the Burris FF-II, Redfield Revolution, or the slightly more expensive VX-1 from Leupold. These have equally good glass but with better eye relief and no thick black ring around the edges.

I hear good things about the higher end Vortex models, but no personal experience. I am quite pleased with the SPARC red dot I have and some Fury 6.5X binoculars made by Vortex.

i have a Savage 10 fp .308 and have a VORTEX PST 6-24 ffp viper Mrad sitting on top. i have been extremely happy with it. i t has great repeatable ability . if you move the turrets. i personally like the MRAD .it took a little getting use to, but wouldn't go back to the other. what i like is every matches, the movements on turret match what you see on the crosshairs. my next new scope will be another Vortex.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP on a Rock River Arms... couldn't be happier. Living in Illinois, longer rifle ranges are few and far between. 200 yards has been the farthest I have shot with this optic. It holds zero, and the glass is clear, bright and sharp.

I have their Solo R/T monocular, and the SPARC red dot. I believe the products are great values at all price points.

And, as noted, the customer service is unbeatable.
