I need to punch some lubed wool felt wads for the 44 NMA I have on the way. My punch set has 7/16" and 1/2" punches. I was thinking that the 7/16" would work although it is technically a tiny bit smaller than the nominal bore size. Any reason to think this won't work as an overpowder wad?

It will but I went another way. I’m using either a12mm cutter for 45 cap and ball and 13mm for 50 or 50 cal precut in .45 and .54 in 50, 58 in .54... seems to create a better seal

Electric drill and harbor freight punches is what I use. No hammering required.
