I made a trade+cash deal with LGS for a mint 15-2 Combat Masterpiece last week. We couldn't do the transfer because DPS was installing a new system. No transfers were done for several days and all the transfer paperwork over the entire state was stacked up. Now you can't get through because they're mobbed with calls. My LGS tried for forty minutes but no go. So I had to leave that little beauty behind. Now I know what it must feel like to live in California. I'll post photos when I pick her up.

It will be worth the wait…and I know what you mean about California and waiting. I live here…scratch that! I exist here…until July of next year then I am gone.
Enough about that…
What’s the barrel length on your beauty?
Does it have the factory grips? :D

its a shame I did not buy more of the smith revolvers when they were cheap... I got some but not near enough and I got 4 inch target sight .38 that is premodel 15..still shoots great! and a model 67

I soooooooo want a 2" M15. I think Ive only ever seen two in the flesh!

The 2" Model 15's are not super rare but fewer of them were produced than the 4" Model 15's.

For most of the production life of the Model 14 and Model 15, 38 Special K-frames, generally, the 4" and 2" guns are Model 15's and the 6" and 8-3/8" guns are Model 14's.

As S&W began phasing out the 38 Special K-frames, they discontinued one of the Model numbers and made the different barrel lengths in the other Model number for a short while. I forget off hand which Model number survived for a few more years and which did not.

Looks like original diamond Magna checked grips and a 4" barrel w/no muzzle wear. I'll pull the grips off and check if they're numbered to the gun. The sn# is K653XXX, which should make it 1965. LGS said he'd take transfer papers home and try ro get through to the state this(Friday) AM.

Thank you.
Green with envy here. :D
It’s aggravating waiting for bureaucracies wheels to turn. I hope your dealer is successful today.

The four inch S&W 15 is perfect for a .38/.357 revolver with adjustable sights but I would shy away from calling it, or another of my revolvers, the ultimately best.

I buy sell and trade guns all the time. I fall victim to the "Ohhhhh Bright Shiny thing" syndrome a lot. But I've had my Model 15-2 for longer than I've ever owned any handgun in my life. Over ten years I suppose. I've never even thought of selling/trading it. I know it can't be replaced, at least not with the diamond targets it came with. A fantastic shooting gun.

I guess I'll hold onto it a bit longer.

I recently purchased my first S & W, a 15-5. It is super sweet shooting, I will struggle to pick up one of my others! My Grandson doesn't let me shoot it often enough! Yes, it was worth the wait, hc18flyer

Maybe 4 years ago we gave the son-in-law a S&W Model 15-3 as a Christmas gift. The gun was a very good deal from a friend's gun shop.

Then a few months ago in the same gun shop a gent comes in looking to sell another Model 15-3 with original box. No sooner than the shop bought it I was on it. I think of it as a Model 10 with adjustable sights. :)

Enjoy your new gun and may it afford you many years of happiness.

Ron

I like Model 15's. There is something special about shooting 38 Special ammunition in a gun chambered for 38 Special.

Here are my two Model 15's. The top gun in the photo is a Model 16-4 (32 H&R Mag).
