Waiting on a gun...

... getting a little stir-crazy. I had a custom order back at the beginning of December 2022 and a charity raffle win on New Year's Day. The raffle win is undoubtedly the nicest gun I will own probably for the rest of my life, and the custom order was something I've been ogling for five years and finally ordered on a Black Friday sale.

... but my state requires a permit to purchase or permit to carry to transfer a pistol, and I wasn't able to get time to take my permit renewal class until January 20, only 15 days prior to my permit expiring, and by statute the sheriff's office has 30 days to issue or deny a permit.

So my custom is sitting in jail at my FFL, and the raffle win gun will probably also end up sitting there as I wait for my new permit to arrive like...

Who else is waiting for a gun, and what are you waiting for?

I'm not even going to say what I have coming, they are just so cool.

Good luck with the permit!

Here in Ca., every gun purchase requires at least a 10 day wait. During Covid that was stretched to 25+ days for at least one gun I bought. :fire:

Looking forward to reading about what you bought and how it shoots for you .

Stay safe.

I know how you feel, waiting time and be very frustrating. Give them a quick call and find out what’s up and keep calling eventually they will get tired and want it handled.

I started asking about getting a custom Henry made in March 2022. Got in touch with somebody that knows somebody. Turned into a small group order of 10 rifles among friends. Last I checked we are at 600 rifles ordered. But for some reason these 5 days (or so) of waiting while my rifle bounces closer on a truck are the most agonizing of the whole process. I spent a MONTH polling people on whether or not people wanted a big loop or small loop that went by easier than the shipping days. As Tom Petty said "The waiting is the hardest part."

@Riomouse911 is correct. California has a 10+ day wait for every firearm and during CoVid waits were much longer. Here’s a PITA frustrating thing that happened to me during “the silliness”.
I was consignment selling an S&W model 60 Pro that in itself was a problem gun that S&W finally fixed. I couldn’t sell it in good conscience without it being repaired.
Anyway I was selling the gun to purchase a Glock 34. The LGS had the Glock on hold for me which says a lot for them. They could have easily marked it way up and sold it.
My revolver had to be held for 21 days before it could be sold under CA law. On day 22 it was sold. After 20 days the state told the buyer they had 10 days to answer a question or provide some documentation to buy the gun. The buyer could not produce what the state wanted at day 30. The gun was then sold to the first attempted buyer’s live-in girlfriend. At day 20 or 21 the state required some clarification from that buyer and they had until day 30 to get the info. That didn’t happen do my revolver went back into the display case to be sold. It was purchased that day. 12 days later the LGS called and said everything went through and I could pick up my money. When I got there I asked about my G34. It had been sold. :uhoh:
The manager, after hearing about all this decided to get me a gun they had put back for the opening of their new location. :D Yay! I filled out my paperwork for my G34 and 14 days later picked up my gun.
So, 95 days from start to finish.

I am so freakin’ happy I no longer live in Kaleepornia as Ahhnold Schwarzenegger used to call it ;)

PS: sorry, this isn’t a competition. I hope this didn’t come off as such.

It happened to me recently. Usually I get a firearm on the 3rd business day or so after I order it. We had some bad weather last month and my most recent took two weeks. I was bummed, but it's a good way to practice patience. Patience and small groups are both good goals. :)

I haven't really been "waiting" in the true sense of the word, but I ordered a stainless Ruger "Bisley" 44 Special at our favorite LGS back in December of last year. But the owner of the store told me then that it "might be a year, IF he can get it at all," so I'm not exactly holding my breath.
On the other hand, if a few months go by, and it looks like I might never see a Ruger "Bisley" 44 Special, I might have the gun store owner look around and see if he can find me a regular Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag with a "Bisley" style grip frame. I'd be settling if I do that though.
It's a long way from being a handgun, but I actually waited 2 years for my .45-110 Shilou Sharps. My wife ordered it for me for our 25th anniversary (almost 27 years ago) but I didn't actually get it until our 27th anniversary. The thing was, when my wife ordered my Shilou Sharps, "Quigley Down Under" hadn't been out all that long, and Shilou Rifle Company had a two-year backlog on rifle orders. So, all I actually got from my wife for a 25th wedding anniversary gift was the receipt that proved she'd ordered my rifle. It worked out okay though - on my wife's and my 27th wedding anniversary, we took a little "mini-vacation" and drove up to Big Timber, Montana and picked up my 25th wedding anniversary gift. :D
I've never experienced any state sanctioned "waiting periods" for guns. It must be hard. :(
