I just got off the phone with my friend. He was at the Wal-Mart in La Plata, MD looking for pistol ammo. Lo and behold they had 9mm in stock, Limit 6. So he bought 6 boxes, and when his girlfriend went to buy six boxes they said, "whoa, we can't do that," and called security. The security comes over and informs him that her buying the ammo would constitute a "straw purchase." Despite the stupidity of the Wal-Mart staff, he chose to leave rather than escalate the situation. This is pretty much the dumbest Wal-Mart story to date.

That happened to me at Walmart just a few months ago when a friend, and I went into the local store to both buy 10/22's.
I let my friend go first as he was wanting the SS version, while I wanted the carbine. Well, his drivers license had expired by a DAY, no cookie for him. I give him a slight ribbing about it and then asked to buy my rifle .....aakkk, aakkk, STRAW SALE, STRAW SALE!!!!
I tried to explain that we both wanted a rifle and show my license and carry permit, even my weapons card from Homeland Security.......NOPE, STRAW SALE.
I did escalate this as I was pissed after my friend and I had hit just about every gun/pawn shop in the area looking for a reasonably priced Rugar. I went up the ladder to eventually the store manager. Still couldn't get them to listen, I walked out pissed, went with my wife to another Walmart and bought my rifle just a few hours later...........stupid.

Walmart seems to be attempting to walk a tight rope between their customer base's desires for guns and ammo, and being politically correct.
