Is there a way to find out with Wal-Marts carry firearms without calling every store?

Somehow I doubt the ones near me (Cook County) carry them. I'm thinking the ones in Indiana might have them?

its all individual store choice. no way to know with out calling i believe. where as its cook county, i dont think its a big gun friendly area.

That's a good question -- I wish I knew the answer before I visited 3 WalMarts here in Austin. Obviously, state laws (and reputations) have no bearing on whether or not WalMart will sell them.

I was quite surprised to discover that none of them in the capital of the of Texas don't sell. Weird huh...

Around Denver, it seems to be the Supercenters that still carry them.

We have two Super Duper Wally Worlds here...one sells ammo and firearms, the other sells ammo only. Both were built at the same time (year or so ago), on different sides of town, and each sold firearms and ammo at first. Six months later, one stopped selling firearms.

http://www.walmart.com

Using store locate by ZIP code, then looking up a store's offered services doesn't give any obvious hint that any specific stores in a samples drawn from NC or FL sell firearms.

Florida Kevin - where did you find that detail in Walmart's web site?

It was a business decision based on sales and not politics as originally reported. They carry what sells in a particular area. That's why in metro Houston you may find Ammo, but no guns, while in Shreveport you'll find all sorts of items that go bang. In Denver, I purchased my target rifles there (had to special order one from a catalog).

its all individual store choice.

NOTHING in a Wal Mart is an individual store choice. Everything is dictated out of Bentonville from whether or not to sell guns to how many Butterfinger bars to stock.

It's all based on business trends, computer modelling, and maximizing profit per square foot of store.

That's why they are so good at what they do.
Don't try to read more into it than there is.

the only places that i don't see Wal-Marts selling firearms/ammo, are the city's that don't have (allow) gunshop's.

If you go to walmart.com you can select which ever gun you want, then print the order form, take it too the sporting goods department and they will order it for you.........Walmart.com actually has great prices on all firearms

That's not the case in Austin...the walmart's don't carry guns, but there's a place with "full autos on the shelf" (well, I guess that's technically cedar park, but still lots o' gun shops in Austin proper).

I didn't know any of them would order for you, i would have thought they'd have to carry an active ffl for that or something.

OKAY I WAS wrong,,,,,,,,,,,,,I just got off walmart.com....................It clearly states that you must take the printed page to a walmart store that sells firearms..........................BUT!!! THey do have a spot at the bottom of the page to type in your zip code and they show you all the stores in your area that sell firearms.........

www.walmart.com

then click on sporting goods, then special order guns and ammunition, then choose your gun

Just tried it. It finds the stores, but doesn't tell you if they sell guns. It pulled up the ones around here that I know don't sell guns.

It's all based on business trends
bingo
the stores that continue to carry guns is because they are the highest gun selling stores. wal-mart just like every other company is in it for the money and what good is a store that sells gus that has thousands of dollars in guns but only makes a few hundread a year of of em? it is good for us but bad for business. i saw the stats i think that the top 10% gun sales stores got to retain thier gun sales abilities.

Call Wal Mart headquarters at Bentonville Arkansas. They will tell you.

After not finding any here in Austin.. my first thought was because of the politics of selling guns. But I believe you -- money talks.

But at the same time, if Austin's WalMarts had poor guns sales, that would also still be attributed to politics. This town is full of liberals... the largest college in the nation here is a breeding ground for it.

But at least we have a Cabela's just outside of town... tons-o-guns.

If you still see Git 'er Dun and Jagermeister window stickers in your area, chances are the WalMart will have guns.

On a side note the only two guns I've bought from WM have jammed really bad, so no buying from them anymore.

PirateRadio,

What is it exactly you are trying to find? Just another place to look at guns? Or is there something more specific you are searching for at Wal-Mart?

If you're trying to find somewhere in IL not too far away just to look at guns, try Cabelas (somewhere up by Chicago I can't quite remember), or go to Plainfield and try Megasports on Rt30 I believe it is, which has a lot of guns and probably the best selection around that I know. While you're there, about 2 miles east down the road is Gander Mountain as well, right next to the 55N entrance ramp. I'm further southwest, so these are the little drives that I know of. But I'm sure if you search the net, there are probably quite a few more gunshops in the general area. I usually just go to these places to look, then jump on Gunbroker and find it at a good price to buy.
