This could be an easy way to steal ammo from you (and not Walmart). Just a heads up. ;)

Clerk said they preferred I paid at the gun counter for my ammo. Paid, clerk put ammo and receipt in a little bag which I placed in my cart. Before I left the gun department, I stopped to look at something. I then walked back around the corner of the isle to grab my cart to continue to the front. Around this corner was a man who saw me, then jerked his arm out of my cart and walked away.

Not just Walmart, but any big box operation may have this happen.

Don't leave paid for items in your cart unattended.

So you're saying that if you don't keep an eye on your stuff, someone could steal it?

You're describing a crime of opportunity. Watch the merch, and no one will jack it.

Ive been in the retail loss prevention business for the better part of a decade now. Never, EVER leave your belongings unattended in a retail store. Dont leave your GPS stuck to your windshield, dont turn your back on your purse, not even for a second.

But at least it's directly gun related!!!
And that's more than I can say for some other threads... :p

We all need little reminder now and then. Thank you, buzzcut.

Really? We could substatute "ammo" with "Spray Paint" and it would be the same

This does not apply to ammo exclusively.

Leave your door unlocked, someone may rob you or come in unexpected. Leave your vehicle unlocked and it may be stolen. Yeah, watch your stuff, people are inherently evil creatures.

Its like a woman at a grocery store. But officer I only walked away from my cart for a second and my purse was gone.:banghead: Or I only ran in to pay for my gas and someone stole my car because I left it running.:cuss:

Glove, some of use live places where you can tell how many people are shopping at the store vs. working at the store, because everyone who is just grabbing something leaves their car running. :p

Especially in the winter.

But no, the bigger the store, the less likely I'd be to leave anything unattended. Not just a firearms thing.

Once I’ve paid for my ammo it doesn’t leave my grubby big hands till I get to the jeep, and that’s no problem since the only reason I’m at WW is to buy ammo.

You should have kicked his ass. Or reported him to security, this way they can post his picture in the area where they have pictures of known shoplifters. I hate shopping in that store and as mentioned I go straight to the sporting goods section and back out the door.

Thanks for the Heads Up I make it a habit to go with the Family to the Store because our Wal Mart even in a town of 30,000 has gotten to be a haven for some strange acting and looking people. I stay with the cart always unless the Wife is with it.

Thanks for a Great Reminder.

You may have a purchase put into a snitch bag (you have no investment in it yet) and pay at the general registers.

Otherwise I usually leave the purchase in sporting goods until last and from there go directly to the regular check out for the rest of the stuff.

A couple of times I have gone to sporting goods first and when I turned to leave someone had stolen my empty shopping cart. Now that really torques me!!! That should be classed as Grand Theft Auto.. er... Cart.

I would've confronted that dirt bag but I don't trust anybody anyway and wouldn't have left my cart unattended if I already paid for the stuff. My walmart has guns and ammo also but in the Northwest there's a store called Bimart that is much cheaper on ammo prices.

Do your shopping. When you are ready to leave, buy your ammo. Go right from sporting goods to the front checkout and pay for the rest of your items (or if you only have a couple things, the SG clerk will ring them up right there.

Didn't y'all hear about the incident here in Denver a couple days ago? A guy had bought a new iPad and was headed out the door of the store. Apparently the bag had a tie string of some kind, which was wrapped around his pinkie finger. A thief came up from behind, grabbed the bag and hauled ass with it, and ripped half the man's pinkie off in the process. The poor guy had to have the finger amputated.

You don't have to be inattentive or negligent. A woman whom I work with was stopped at light with her purse on the seat next to her. Hot day, windows down (no A/C), some lowlife runs up to her car, reaches in, and is off with her purse. All she got home with that night were her car keys (and her life!).

My WM sells Guns!

Jealous. Well, mine sells muzzleloaders sometimes. But since muzzleloaders aren't technically a firearm... :)

My WM does the same - you must pay for ammo at the sporting goods counter. You also must pay for prescriptions at the pharmacy. Haven't had any trouble with the policy, but you raise a good point.

The point the OP was hoping to make was the fact that in WW and many other stores, there are people prowling the aisles pretending to be shopping, with carts and merchandise in them. The only reason they are in the store is to cruise around hoping to find some idiot leaving their already paid for stuff or their purse or wallet or cell phone in the cart while they are looking for something else down the row or the next aisle.

And no, you don't have to be inattentive or negligent, but it makes it much easier on the dirtballs if you are.

And the negligent part also applies if you see somebody yanking their arm out of somebody else's cart when they notice you noticing them and you fail to notify the store management. And if the store management is disinterested, raise a bunch of hell with corporate, as this is such a common problem everywhere.

This is the same type scheme as the parking lot prowlers looking for an open pickup truck with materials or tools in the back while the owner parks just to pop in and out of the HomeDepot for just a second. Lots of times it will be a couple guys working together, one stealing the stuff while the other one follows the victim around the store and the team stays in touch via cell the whole time.

:scrutiny:Yesterday I watched a guy at an indoor range/gun store pull some real hap-hazard security on his range bag. The store was very busy, and he was at the counter, waiting for a salesman to help him. His bag was beside him on an ammo display. As I stepped up next to him, he seemed startled, and quickly picked up his bag and moved it to a similar display on the other side of him, again turning his back on his bag. Having noticed this, I decided to watch a minute... several moments later after I had moved to another area of the store, I saw him surprised again. At this point I just stayed back and watched him for a few more minutes. He seemed to forget it was there, and turn his back on it for a couple of minutes at a time, remember it, turn back around and move it away from other customers. He finally completed his business and left. Point being, he was an easy mark if someone had wanted his bag. He failed to look after his property. It turned out ok this time, but who knows if he'll be so lucky again. We have to be aware of our surroundings all the time...no exceptions. Thanks to the OP for reminding us to "be careful out there..."
