Walmart Heads Up (Cheap Ammo)

They had an ammo counter for the past 25 years. I have been boycotting them the last year and a half. When they stopped selling guns I quit shopping at wallmart. Figured I might get lucky with recent reports and get some ammo at cost.

I really should follow suit. I bought a lot of ammo from them.

I wouldn't even think of going into Dicks, but ammo costs more at Cal Ranch and Sportsman's Warehouse (and the latter treated me rather poorly once).

Its a conundrum (my movie library would cost more too if I boycotted Walmart).

Perhaps the best thing to do is buy some Walmart stock and then go to the stockholders meeting and advocate that they reconsider their position.

Mixed feelings about buying ammo there now, but a screaming deal is deal when at that price, wish I had known about this earlier wasn't able to go there until tonight around 8pm after the drive home from work. Went to two stores, everything gone at one except Tula 7.62x54 at $5.00 a box plus 7 cents each tax wiped out the 320 rounds they had so my Mosin's get fed for a while and they shoot good with Tula. They had two boxes of 100 round .40 but in 165gr for $15.00 I want 180gr so I passed

Second store 10 min drive away was wiped out except 6 100 round Federal .45 ACP boxes left at $21.00 plus tax each,I wiped that out. Can't gripe at 11.70 per 50 for brass cased .45 ACP. Fact is you can still get it online for just a few more cents a round though.

Wish I had known about this sooner really would have liked to load up on 9mm and .223

Thought about trying two other stores 20 miles away but I know chances are it would be a waste of time and after working all week just want to chill tonight instead of spending half the night burning gas and time on a big maybe of finding ammo.

Unless you buy tens of millions in shares, I don't think the board will hear a thing you say. Unlike Dick's, Walmart really is too big to fail. Their presence everywhere and on-the-shelf prices that compete with or even beat online retailers makes it very difficult to boycott if you have a budget, and doubly so if you live in a small town like mine where your choice for grocery and household shopping is either wally world or over-priced and union-controlled Safeway.

Yes, my local Walmart had brass UMC Remington .223 for $7 for a box of 50 = .14 per round... Needless to say I cleaned them out. Brought 10 boxes of Tula steel case .223 for $2.50 for a box of 20... There was a lot of that left, but if I had to do it over again, I'd taken all of that too for .12-.13 per round.

Picked this up on Thurs. For everyone looking to boycott Walmart over the ammo thing you have to consider the margin in ammo these days. In the main common calibers there is no margin. They don't make money on the ammo counter anymore. The prices are so low that but the time you ship it stock it and have someone there to open the case you aren't making any money on stuff like 9mm, 45 ACP and 223/556. It is a race to the bottom. More a more brick and mortar places are getting out of the ammo business because they can make more money using that space to sell something else. Others like Cabelas and Academy basically use it as loss leaders to get you in the store to buy clothing, gear and outdoor equipment. In the end it is as much a business decision as a political one. I agree 100% with @MachIVshooter Walmart is not going anywhere. If you live in a small town there are no other low priced options for a lot of household goods. Its either order from Amazon or Walmart or overpay.

My local one was almost picked clean. Picked up a box of HP 223 and some HP 380 and .38 special but otherwise nothing left. I'm not going to hit others in the area, it took 20 minutes to get someone to come over that could sell it to me. The guy that did show up was a shooter and was talking about what a dumb decision it was by corporate.

Good haul on the 45 ACP there, WVsig.

What I've picked up so far from Walmart after this liquidation sale started:
- 10 x 50 rounds of Federal .40 S&W @ $5/50 (I don't even have a .40 caliber gun... what's wrong with me??? There were more boxes but I left those, proving I'm not insane...)
- 2 x 100 Federal .45 ACP @ $15/100
- 4 x 100 Remington .38 Special +P 125 grain SJHP @ $15/100

A couple of nice and knowledgeable guys work the ammo counter at our non-super-center WM. They said that they are clearing out the warehouses of the lines that they will cease selling, so the stock keeps trickling in and will likely do so until the warehouses are depleted of these lines. Not surprisingly, they say it doesn't stay on the shelf long when it hits at these prices. Some stores are getting a lot more than others, ours being one of the ones not getting a lot because they are considered a "fishing store" instead of a "hunting store" like one about 5 miles away.

Best caliber than any other to have ammo but no gun for... You should be able to pick up a 40 Cal pistol for pretty cheap if you so choose.

The local superstore's shelves looked like Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard. There was no .38 Sp./.357, 9mm, or .45 left. There was a little .32 and .380 left with the .380 going for $7 for 50 FMJ. As I reload for .380 , .38, & .357, that FMJ didn't really interest me.

So you are telling me there is a CHANCE more ammo might come in? At the two stores that night both counter people said that's it no more but they might be not in the know. I know some might think I'm a traitor for even considering going there but the way I see it, I'll be using some of said ammo to train my friend and also another friend's two daughters and boyfriends new to shooting and instill a solid pro second amendment supporter in them.

Would love a second chance to gobble up 9mm and .223

I could be tempted by this. :)
I seen brand new top tier pistols sell online new in 40 Cal around $300 +/- while the 9mm version was listed for $100 or more. You could probably get a killer deal on LNIB if you went used...

I accidentally purchased a box of 357 Sig ammo thinking it was magnums.

I agree, and me personally, I don't care about what faceless/nameless people on the inet think about me. The way I see it, they're wasting their energy being upset at me while I'm spending my energy happily shooting my cheap ammo on the range with friends and family not giving them a second thought.

At some point, the stores won't be getting any more of any given round that they are phasing out, but until the warehouses are out, it will continue to be fed out to the stores. My store has run out a few times, been re-stocked, and run out again, just like they used to do when Obama and the Democrats were selling record amounts of ammo with their threats of various actions. :) The people who work in the sporting goods department don't know (at my store, anyway) if or when they'll get more, but they know that they've been repeatedly selling out, then having a re-stock show up. I'm hoping I catch them with some more bargain 45 ACP, or something that I can use.

So I had to do something a few miles away from home earlier, there were three Walmart on way home, I figuired I'm wasting my time but for the sake of knowing I stopped. First store had plenty of .40 but at normal prices, I wonder if some managers refuse to mark down the ammo and would rather see it donated to police.

Second one had thousands of rounds of .40 Federal 180 gr brass case, $7.50 a box of 50. I got 2000 thousand rounds:what:I couldn't help it that is less than what a box of 9mm normally goes for there were still a thousand rounds left on the shelf hope someone gets it. I guess I'm gonna have to get another .40 now lol. Everything else was cleared out. Third store about 500 rounds of .38 spcl left, $9 a box I got 250 rounds and a couple of boxes of .32 auto which I said three boxes but the guy loaded a box .25 auto instead didn't realize till later oh well.

Anyway 9mm and .223 seems a goner one week till the end of the month I doubt stores will be restocking any. SO I guess coming up I'll be doing a lot of .40 shooting for a while we can archive pelo801 photo above to reminisce what once was.

I'm going to dub this the great Walmart carcass pick of 2019
Yes but now the fact when it comes time to get more ammo Walmart is no longer a easy source and that is gonna make it more difficult for some and maybe more expensive.

Win USA Forged 9mm steelcased 150 rd boxes for $11.00/ea., this ammo shoots fine & the local indoor range allows steelcased ammo. I bought 6 boxes

The bones have been picked clean at our two local Walmarts. UMC 250 packs 9mm 115 grain FMJ for $40. UMC 250 packs 38 spl 130 grain FMJ for $35. 14 cents/round for 38 spl makes for cheap revolver plinking at the range. Wife says I bought my own Christmas presents this year. Fine with me.

I know our local WM will not be receiving any more handgun ammo except .22. Any left over after Dec 29th will be turned over to the state police. Your locale may be different but I'd get it while you can.

Yes, I heard the same. Whatever doesnt sell will be donated to the police.

I'm pretty sure my local WM now has all of the closeout ammo that they will receive. They haven't been restocked in several days now, and have within the past couple of days have removed all of the shelf price labels from all of the empty slots. Seems like someone has told them that they are done once they sell what they have.

My local stores still have the tags on the shelves but nothing coming in for days. Scooping up half price ammo was fun while it lasted!:D

Lst week I had business in the next city to me, four stores in that area so I stopped and looked. Two stores oddly have lots of .40 and .380 along with some .44 mag but priced at normal pricing, don't know why some stores aren't marking down the ammo and some are but the stores that did mark down the ammo are cleaned out.

Anyway while I didn't get any 9mm or .223 I did score last week 320 rounds of 7.62x54r at $5 a box, 200 rounds of .44 mag at $19.00 a box, 250 rounds of .38 special at $9.00 a box, 100 rounds of .32 at $13.00 a box, 600 rounds of .45 ACP at $21 a box of 100, and 2400 rounds of .40 at $15.00 for a box of 100. That was basically half price than normal anywhere else.

A good haul. Cause and effect, now that I have 2400 rounds of .40 I'm gonna get a couple more .40 handguns, made up my mind gonna be a Beretta 96 and a H&K USP so I'm watching the gun auction sites for a good deal on them.I plan on putting factory adjustable rear sights on both of them for target shooting.
