wkumatt, don't know where you get your info from, but all tha WallyWorlds in Kentucky do not carry weapons. Of the 4 stores in Lexington, only the one at Hamburg Place carries weapons. Just got a new CZ-527 Varmint in .223 from Bud's a couple of weeks ago. Cost was $615.00. WallyWorld wanted
$706.00 for it.

Fair enough, I should have said all the Walmarts I've been in, in the last few years in KY as far as I can remember. I'll bet several of the Louisville and Florence area ones don't have sporting goods either. +1 on Buds, If I can't get it from Cheeks, it comes from Buds, then whoever is cheapest.

To continue this tale, on top of all the crap the receipt for the Savage had a survey on it. You can believe I jumped online and filled that out and wrote a diatribe in the comments section.

The manager calls me a couple days later and tells me that he can see I do a lot of business there and if ill come in and talk to him he is gonna order me another 223 and make it worth my while. Told him I'll come by a week from Mon and we'll see. Gonna try to get the Howa I wanted in the beginning in a different color for the same price.

A manager must escort you to the door of the store with your new firearm and you cannot buy ammo at the same time.

Walmart's lawyers' advice after a suicide shot himself in a Walmart store. An example of the American propensity to set a universal policy based on a freak occurance that may never repeat.

This is not completely accurate in my experience. You can buy ammo at the same time but the manager carries your gun to the door for you. I asked, they said the no ammo thing has gone away.

Finding a reliable cite on Walmart gun policy is a pain.

2003 Wal-Mart gun suicide turns up mostly reprints of a Dec 2004 Associated Press story.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/12/22/national/main662423.shtml
"Wal-Mart Sued Over Gun Suicide"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,142213,00.html

But nothing (so far) on the official manager gun walk policy. When I was walked to the door with a CVA Bobcat (muzzleloader) I did not know whether to be irked or amused.

http://www.walmart.com/ Search departments does not include legal department. ;) There is no listing of store policies, much less why.

There are discussions on various boards, which interesting enuf include "manager gun walk to the door" at places like Cabelas and Gander, as well as Walmart. Some stores beside Walmart that had such a policy have stopped.

Search Wal-Mart gun policy turns up nothing on Walmart internal policy on the manager gun walk, but does show gems like: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20110428/FREE/110429851/0/REAL_ESTATE Daniel Massey, "Foes open fire on Walmart's gun sales", crain's new york business, 28 Apr 2011.

Walmart announced plans to bring rifles, shotguns and ammo back to hundreds of stores where sales stopped five years ago--and New York City anti-gun officials and groups are calling in Bloomberg and MAIG to block Walmart from opening a store in NYC even tho' Walmart had no plans to sell rifles, shotguns or ammo in NYC. The stores that would resume long gun and ammo sales are all in other parts of the country, but to NYC anti-gunners its anathema.

10 yrs ago, walmart was pretty hard to beat pricewise, then they jacked the prices up to near retail, then they stopped selling at most of them.

I haven't really done any comparisons lately.

Waiting nearly 7 months for a T-Bolt to deliver kind of broke me of using them (good thing I wasn't in a hurry). I cancelled the order and 4 or 5 months after that they still had not recieved it.

I recall ordering a Marlin lever from them once, it came in with the sight broke off. In the shipping process the part had scratched the barrel, the reciever, and the stock. No worries- full refund.

Still about the best handy source for cheaper ammo.

I'll update Monday on what happens with getting another rifle.

Reading the last few posts made me chuckle. My granny gripes all the time that there is nobody at the grocers to carry out her purchases anymore. Here we are griping because someone insists on it.

I have been looking for this for a couple years. I can never find it online.
Enjoy!

Ah, no prices listed though.
By the way, Walmart announced they will start selling firearms in California gain! :]

This is a good thing: When a company with the weight Walmart has in DC decides selling guns in one of the most restrictive states in the country is a good idea. That means public perception is changing.

Really? Every grocery store here still asks if you need help taking out your groceries. I just figured it was the same everywhere.

Just posting to keep this thread near the top. When I get back from vacay to talk to this manager guy I want to be able to show him that 1800 fellow gun owners /buyers are reading my story. I don't think it could possibly hurt my case.

Now I need some help with a decision.
Walmart manager missed my expectations but I'm still tempted to buy one last rifle from there. We left it with a standing offer in front of a witness of my own and three of their managers that the next gun I buy from them I get at their cost. To make a long story short basically anything they sell is at a 15% markup. I don't want to debate whether or not that is true it doesn't matter at this point for me. That is roughly the discount I'll get from their list price.

Now my dilemma, I have a 30C, 30-30, 30.06, and .308 and a myriad of rimfires. What I want is a .223 so I can shoot up some of the cheap ammo I see everywhere. I've got my neighbors 1200 acres behind me and I'm the only shooter allowed on the place. I've blown my gun budget for the year so to keep things around the homestead civil, I'm on a tight budget. I'm looking for a good bolt action with a good resale value and good bones. I'd like to do better than the AXIS, Mossberg 4X4, and the 770.

Choices,
Stevens Model 200 #17744 for $282.20
Thompson Center Venture #5539 for $387.60
Weatherby Vanguard #VGW223RR40 for $364.65

Last question, they have a Remington M700 (Looks like an SPS) in the case for $400 with scope in 30.06. I'd take that if it were .223, they don't have the package in the catalog so they tell me they can't get me a .223, has anyone seen one of these in their local Walmart and if so could you get me the UPC?

I stopped by my WM and asked about the catalog. I was looking for a Henry in .22 magnum. They didn't have one in the catalog but the .22 lr carbine was $276. The odd part was when the guy told me to go to the jewelry counter with the catalog if I wanted to order something!!

Me too, apparently those are the only registers they have that will accept a special order.

Looking thru the catalog linked above there is the CZ American bolt action in .223, and a Rem 700 SPECIAL PURPOSE STAINLESS SYNTHETIC BOLT. What about the Rossi matched pair single shots?
