Their ammo goes 'bang' when you want it to, their pigeons generally hold up on their first launch, their guns are not high end but they function, their paper targets open when a projectile passes through them.

What more can you ask from Wally World? A quick and cheap place to pick up various sundries for a day of shooting. . .

I avoid WWB when I can but not just at Wal-Mart, that stuff is both dirty to fire and the ammo itself in the box is dirty. My local Wal-Mart used to sell guns around 10 years ago but they stopped. It would be nice if they started again.

I've bought firearms over the years from Wal-mart never a problem with one. I've even special ordered a rifle from them. I was disappointed when they changed their policies.

I've bought a ton of 22lr , 22wmr ammo and shotgun shells by the case. Never a problem in fact I've always been treated well and have usually wrangled an additional discount from the managers.

I'm not a fan boi or a detractor of Wal-mart. I shop them like I do Sears, Penny's,K-mart, Auto Zone, Pep Boys etc. I shop the sales, availability of items I need, and the guarantees I get..

I guess making money triumphed over being anti-gun in the Walmart head offices. I don't look for it but I believe I started seeing reloading accessories last time in now that I think about it.

Our local WallyWorld really went full tilt.
Stuffed Wolves/Bobcats etc....like Bass Pro Shops. Got themselves some evil black rifles and the ammo shelves are full.
I took the time to compliment the manager and say I appreciated it. She told me they had had significant positive responses.
I see this as a great way to counter the anti's rhetoric myself. Guns and America. WallyWorld puts firearms and ammo in a positive non-threatening light. As they very well should be!

Our local WalMarts seem to have the guaranteed 40 minutes policy. That is, regardless of whether there are any other customers, you are guaranteed to wait for at least 40 minutes. I hate that store and I only buy ammo in it.

Here on the doorsteps of the District of Columbia, I don't see that happening to my Wally World... JC_doubledown.gif

But I guess hope always springs eternal...

How do you figure they are anti gun? They've been selling ammo for a long time.

Not to mention the corporate policy is to allow firearms to be carried in the store according to state law, including open carry, although a few rogue managers will get their panties in a bunch every now and then.

When they turned our old Walmart in to a bigger one they did away with all guns and the people their was real glad to see them go, they were gone for about 2 years well about 6mo's a go they brought them back, Not me or none of my friends will buy guns from them or any thing pertaining to them from Walmart ever again, Do we hold a grue YES :cuss::cuss::cuss:

There is a Walmart 15 miles from here that sells guns. There are 2 Walmarts 35 miles from here either way that sell guns but the Walmart we have right here in town does not. Not sure of the reason but this town is smack dab in the middle of gun country and I don't understand it. Reloading equipment/supplies would sure be nice too.

Guys,

Please support your local dealers whenever possible. While Walmart may have good prices, if they manage to drive the other FFL's in our communities out of business, both prices and selection will suffer.

That IS a good point. I do both, as I buy all my guns from LGS's (did that even when my Wal-Mart did have guns, except for the aforementioned 10/22)...I also pay an annual membership to shoot at the range which is part of my nearest LGS, often buy incidental ammo from them when at that range, and buy their targets, gun-cleaning equipment, etc.

Matthew....the greater percentage of America is not in suburbia but in Small Town USA. WallyWorld is the only game in town when it comes to guns and ammo. I can drive about 30 miles to a feed store that has guns and ammo and they are sky high.

You know fellow THR members iv seen so many of tjese walmart threads started on THR and i have to hand it to us we seem to be a major walmat basher. Yes, i agree the service is slow sometimes, but so it is when i walk in to a pilot truck stop to pay for my nessesities. The gander mnt. In amarilo tx for instence .223 BRASS WIN. BY THE100 IS $40.00. IN A WALMART MY TRAVELS THREW WASHINGTON,IDAHO,AND MONTANA,I FOUND WINCHESTER .223 BRASS for $25.00. Also something toataly rediculas i was at cabelas in Sidney,NE this morning and seen a savage axis .223 used $495.00 at wallmart in Lexington NE i bought my savage axis .223 for $267.00. So i ask forum why do we bash the heck out of walmart.

I buy my pistols, used rifles and shoguns, specialty firearms and other related items from the local B&M gun shop. Safes, powders, primers etc etc.

I have no problem buying new Rifles and Shotguns from the box store such as Wal-mart when doing so saves me significant dollars. And I'm sure many who bash Wal-mart also do some firearm shopping with Wal-mart also.

The only Walmart that still sells guns around here is the Council Bluffs IA store and they are very good.

There is always someone at the counter(or at least within 20 ft of it)--they have a computer that you put your info in that spits out the forms you sign--since I'm out of state they always have to call the check and it takes about 2 mins----a manager shows up within 5 mins of being paged and the whole process if quite painless. The clerk has the keys to the back room, so you're not waiting for a manager to get the box or a different model out of the stock room.

There is always a Mini-14--10/22---Marlin 60 and a few bolt action deer rifles in one display case------and various pump and auto shotguns in the other one-------and different models from time to time that fill in the holes------You can also special order if you want to.

Why would I pay $300 for a Mossberg 500 at Cabela's or Scheel's when I can get the exact same thing at Walmart for $217?

I still give the pawn shop business and the only other LGS(Guns Unlimited) sucks and they hate you---haven't been there in years due to bad service and high prices and could give a flip if they go out of business.

I would be more than happy to support the small business local LGS's around here if they weren't all arrogant lower orifices that seem to be bothered by your patronage. And if they didn't have a 200% markup they wouldn't lose as much business either. Sorry but I worked very hard for my money and I will go with the best price I can get. If you want to go spend 40% more at a local LGS, that's your business and I am glad you do not have to save money like the rest of us do.

Back when my Wal-Mart was stocking guns (about a decade ago), I bought a Wal-Mart exclusive Ruger 10/22 with a stainless barrel and green laminated stock. It was a fine example of the 10/22 in every way, and had no reason to believe that any corners had been cut.

.

I bought the same gun but I found mine like new at a pawn shop. It came with a nice laminated stock and a sling with mounts. Personally I don't shop much at walmart but I have no reason to believe that they are selling inferior versions of a product that other stores sell.

Wal Mart sells guns because guns sell. Nothing more, nothing less.

While I do this when I can, I am in agrement with this:

Our LGS is one of the biggest this side of the Mississippi but their prices are just not that good. The selection is great but I can buy from Buds and pay less WITH shipping and transfer fee.

I don't go to WalMart because I can not suffer the people that shop there for any reasonable amount of time. But that is another rant that is not on topic.

I'm thinkin' that "special edition" 10/22 has become almost legendary (okay -- maybe not quite that, but recognized enough to be repeatedly referenced) in the very devoted 10/22 community.

Glad to hear yours was a well-made example of that product line also... good3.gif

If you like the lowest possible price, there's nothing wrong with shopping at WalMart. I do sometimes.

If you want or need the benefits you get from a local gun store with lots of guns right there behind the counter and a knowledgeable staff you should shop the LGS. I do sometimes.

However, please don't go to the local store to avail yourself of their expertise and selection, learn all you can and then go to WalMart to save $25.
