Let's face it, no one buys a gun as an 'impulse purchase'.

I think that's mainly caused by the fact that there's now a waiting period, etc. I remember buying shotguns at the last minute (as a kid) when we were all going pheasant hunting the next day. I also remember when you could walk into a gun store and pick up a .44 magnum, go to the range and shoot it the same afternoon .. .and then wonder "what in the heck did I just do?" (my first handgun was a .44 magnum :) )

Heck, I guess I'm getting old because I can remember buying guns at the Walgreen's in Sioux City Iowa . . . . :)

Humph... :banghead:

Most states don't have a waiting period to purchase a gun anymore. I suppose the socialist paradises like MA, MD, NJ, NY, IL and CA might but they're definitely the exception and not the rule.

No - a waiting period doesn't have anything to do with gun purchases not being impulse buys.

Has the Walmarts stopped selling firearms or stopped keeping them in inventory? I know you could ask for the cataloque behind the counter and they would order anything for you. I remember when K-Mart took the handguns out the store, but would still order one for you if you asked.

Columbus WI wally world is were my brother inlaw bought his first rifle last year just before deer season. Although the counter person was ok knowledge wise. I work part time at a store in ILL so I'm up on prices.
they had a Winchester MOD70 in 7mm wssm with a cheap but very servicable simmons scope and rings included in the package. The price was 349.00
I told him to buy on the spot, When I got home I ckecked my wholesale prices and I could not touch it for just the rifle by its self
