Since I first got my brand-spankin'-new .30 Carbine Blackhawk directly from Ruger, I've been thinkin' of the appropriate way to polish off this beauty. So I went lookin' for just the right way to set off the natural beauty of an SAA revolver.

What I think would fit the bill perfectly is a pair of ivory grips. So I searched and I believe I have found the right answer: grips made from the tusk of a bull walrus.

Anyone have experience with this?

I have a pair of ivory grips and mammoth grips for a 1911. I have no issue with them. Get 'em whilst you can!

In the "Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine" thread Tusker 10MM had a photo of his .30 Carbine Blackhawk with Hippo ivory grips. Looked very sharp on a blued gun!

This is a pair of Walrus Ivories I had laying around until I put them on this 1937 S&W (1917)

My 30 carbine in question in the above post. A good hand to Iron fit

Not Ivory, but I have this pair of Stags laying around after I took them off the above Blackhawk several years ago. :)

This is a pair of vintage walrus ivory grips that MD Grips made for my Colt SAA. Very unique in appearance. I have several sets of pre-ban elephant ivory and none really have the character of the walrus ivory.

Love those stag grips on your Blackhawk .32-20! The Ruger medallion is a nice touch too!

Wow, these grips must be popular, there's reports about them on several forums.

OP, take care with that gun, there's all sorts of folks complaining about poor QC and other issues with that specific model. Must be a lot of bad guns out there with that caliber, every forum I visit has a thread about how bad they are.

It amazes me how many times opinions, based on shear ignorance, are repeated in the internet echo chamber.

I've met more than my share of people who've told me pure BS about this cartridge+gun and when asked how they came about their opinion, it comes down to: I've read it multiple time ... on some website. Rarely is it based on any actual, direct experience.

Most galling of all are the people who sing the praises of the .327 FedMag and then, in the same breath, excoriated the .30 Carbine Blackhawk. A pistol cartridge that's ballistically superior.

Personally, even though I own 2 M1 Carbines and love them, it believe the .30 Carbine cartridge only truly comes into its own with the Blackhawk.
