Anybody own or ever shot a Walther P22? I just bout one about an hour ago and have come across some internet talk about it being very "picky" on the ammo you put through it. I was going to go with a S&W 22a or a Ruger, but the Walther cought my eye. It's not going to be my CC weapon ( Kel-Tec P11 or S&W MP40) I just wanted a plinker cause the cost of ammo just keeps going up, but it is a neat looking gun and I COULD carry it if I ever had to because of its size. I traded an old RG .38 special and gave $225 - listed for $300. I didn't think the RG was worth $10, so I think I got a good deal. Any thoughts All?

They are a bit finicky. They can get a bit dirty with cheap ammo, as most will, and will cause problems, but if you use CCI, they usually run pretty well. It's not a target gun. My Mark II Government Target with the ~7" bull barrel is obviously much more accurate and has a much better trigger (it does have a Volquartzen, so that's a "d'uh" comment), but if you do your part, you should have a fun time at the range. Even though it is a .22lr, remember to not "limp wrist" it becuase you will have failures to eject or feed.

Have fun!

I had to have the barrel replaced right out of the box on the one I bought. I have been shooting Federal Bulk ammo from Wally World through mine and it shoots fine but is not a tack driver. Remington bulk ammo leaded the barrel something terrible.

mine is not. except for the stuff that i have that is severly corroded and really old. it will fire that old stuff, but has trouble ejecting it. to be fair though, my autoloader rifle has a worse time with it than the walther. now that i have all of that old nasty stuff gone, it does not care if it is cci, remington, federal, super x , just feed it, and it is happy. it does however, like to be clean. so after you shoot it, clean it. it will have a happier life.

the ONLY ammo mine wont shoot is the federal 50 round boxes that are black.grey/blue and have just a regular lead bullet that isnt coated.

i motsly shoot the remington "gold" HP that comes in the bulk pack of 550 i havent tried the federal copper bulk pack, ive been very happy with the remington so i never saw the point.

i think the pickyness has been worked out with the new mags

traded mine for a keltec pf-9 because it really didn't... do anything for me at all. Real picky about ammo (stovepipes), inaccurate, didn't like how the safety, magazine, trigger all worked together... I think there are better options out there.
