I am thinking about sending my P5 upper for refinish and I was wondering about some of the lettering and proof marks are a little shallow and faint, my question is, will refinishing it cause the prints to become more faint or rub off?

is the old finish removed chemichally or is it simply rubbed off with steel woll, blasting or what have you.

Most of the stripping is done chemically. The problem lies in the polishing. If you want a glossy finish, the slide will have to be polished and you might lose some of the lettering. If you want a matte finish, the 'smith might bead-blast the slide and you could also lose some lettering.

I have seen some excellent work done by 'smiths, but that excellent job will not be cheap. You get what you pay for.
