Walther PPQ

Saw the PPQ 9 at last weeks gun show, they were asking $609, this dealer is generally one of the lowest priced for what they have, but I never buy the first one I see.

Palmetto State Armory has them in their store (but not on their website) for $529.

I haven't shot one myself, but all reports I've read have been very positive. It's not really a new gun after all - just a new trigger system (and some aesthetic changes) for the very well-proven and excellent P99.

IMO absolutely wonderful pistol. Here is a recent thread I have started. I am saving up for one now.

I was looking to buy a HK P30 but Walther P99 AS/PPQ have made me totally forget about the HK P30. Last weekend I helda brand new M&P and PPQ side by side at the local gun store and for me the PPW was the definite winner. There was no contest on the triggers between the two.

I thought the same thing Nushif. Maybe in the future the hi-points will become stylish and they'll have to switch to "ugly" polished blues and walnut to keep cost down

I did the same thing when I bought my P99AS last year. It's AMAZING how much higher the quality of the Walther is when compared to a M&P (or a Glock). And at about the same price point, no less!

You almost forget you're looking at a plastic pistol (no mold lines, no plastic flash) until you pick it up. Just higher quality all around.

If the word gets out about how great the PPQ's trigger is and how well made the Walther pistol is, that overhyped, overpriced, ugly M&P pistol with the lousy trigger is toast! :)

Of course, the real problem is that Walthers are marketed (very poorly) in the US by S&W. And I can guarantee you that while the PPQ will be successful in Europe (just as the P99 already is), there is no way S&W is going to let it cut into M&P sales here.

Walther definitely needs to find a better importation/marketnig deal than what they have now.

Yep!!

When I go into my LGS I have to really look to find the Walthers. They usually have about a quarter of one shelf in a cabinet near the bottom. To be honest I had never even noticed them there until my Son came home with a P99 AS.

Also the only have a P99 AS .40 to rent!! The recoil is a bit noticeable on the P99 in .40 and my guess is most would not like it. It is almost like they don't really want to sell the P99.

I've been seeing the M&P for $500-$550. I am seeing the PPQ for $600+

I personally like the look of the M&P better. Can't comment on the trigger of the PPQ, but I've dry fired the M&P and it isn't any worse than most other striker fired guns I have tried.

Guns and Ammo just gave it the front page status on their latest magazine, for whatever that's worth. Probably means Walther paid someone somewhere on the line. Still looks like a fine handgun, just cannot get around the magazine release. Guess I'm a traditional sort of guy.

You might not be looking hard enough. I've seen the PPQ new as low as $529 (in a gun store - not online).

That's probably the problem. The triggers of most striker-fired guns suck. The P99AS and PPQ are in a completely different league.

good info. are they as accurate as G&A says(1.5" @ 25 yds)

My P99AS is that accurate (when firing from a rest of course). There's no reason to think a PPQ wouldn't have the same accuracy. It's basically just the same gun with a different trigger system.

I went out looking for a striker fired 9 Sunday. I tried the Glock 19, I tried the Ruger SR9, I tried the Ruger SR9c....I couldn't find an M&P 9 so I tried the M&P 45. I really wanted to try a Walther as well, but the only centerfire Walthers I found were the PPS and the PK380. I went to three different stores. Gander Mountain, Bass Pro and my LGS. Bass Pro told me they had sold a P99 a few days before but didn't have anything else.

The Guns & Ammo review was great!! :)

Good looking cover photo too! I'm glad this extraordinary pistol is finally getting some recognition. Too bad Walther has S&W involved. If they could market this gun on their own they would really have a home run with it.

No way that junk S&W pushes could compete with the PPQ. :)

Very true. There's really no comparison between the M&P and the PPQ. I just don't really trust the gun magazines for accurate performance info on firearms anymore. But I do like reading Venola's last page article. He's a riot!

anybody shoot a PPQ against a XDm? opinions? still can't find one to try.

I haven't shot a PPQ against an XD, but I have shot a Walther P99 (same gun as PPQ but with DA/SA trigger) against it. The Walther is vastly better for me. Better ergonomics, better trigger, and better accuracy. A tad lighter too - which means it's slightly snappier than the XD. From what the guys on the Walther forum are saying, the trigger feel on the PPQ is very similar to the single-action pull of the P99 (which is excellent).

I own a P99AS, PPQ, a couple of M&Ps, and a couple of XDs. I like them all, but the Walthers are, for me, much more ergonomic, accurate and easy to shoot well. For me, the Walther ergos put the others to shame.

Look folks if the P99 were as great as all four dozen of its stateside fans say it is it wouldn't be an obscure pistol that has been through a bunch of trigger system changes and even more marketing designations.:p

obscure pistol?,lol,..that's funny.

if your not a discerning buyer/user and you can't tell differences between one trigger or grip etc.,etc. over the next, than go ahead and follow everyone else.(watch out for cliffs,..baaa,baaa)
