Iam new to the operation of the TPH and mine will fire double action when it comes off safe but if the cartridge does not fire, subsequent double action attempts do not allow the hammer to fall all the way, the pistol acts like there is a hammer block safety. Is this normal for this gun?

Single action functioning is fine, but cocking this gun to single action is a pain. Anyone have any similar problem? Is there a fix? All the gunsmiths I have approached seem to want nothing to do with a discontinued pistol.

The TPH's "safety" is really a "hammer drop" that is used to safely drop the hammer out of the single action mode back to the double action. If you leave it engaged you maintain the hammer block.
My TPH does not have any additional form of a hammer block except for the "hammer drop". It does have a half cock notch on the hammer that can be engaged in order to move the hammer face off the rear of the slide and maybe the hammer is not making it past that half cock when you try to fire it double action.

Say Jim,

I take it to mean that after having failed to fire double action, you need to cock the pistol to fire the first shot or will the gun fire on a second double action pull?

Possible solution-

When I first started working with mine in .22RF, I immediately noticed that if I 'babied' that first round into the chamber and then either manually lowered the hammer or used the safety and caught the hammer on the way that I got a lot of failures to fire the first D.A. shot. Think the cartridge was being cushioned by the extractor or bolt face?

Working the the slide as briskly as you can and then applying the safety- and catching the hammer have taken care of any issues with my gun.

Don't know if my experience will help or not, but thought to chime in,

Good luck with it, JT
