Well, went shooting at the outdoor range I usually go to today. Here comes some wannabee with tiger stripe camo pants carrying a PPK mexican style. Pulls out 2 UZIs in semi auto and a glock and 1911 with silencers and starts popping rounds. And then has a AD with a Mac10 semi auto copy and about shoots his foot off. Time for me to leave!!

I think some gun owners need to face reality and get a life.

Chances are you won't have to worry about him for too long. He'll probably take care of himself for you. Listen to your local news to see if he does.

Almost darwinized himself, didn't he? Were they real sound suppressors or were they cosmetic accessories?

Everyone has a starting point and a reason for getting into guns, his where probably the movies where mak 10's are worth something... With any luck and a few well placed smacks on the head from the range master and he'll be a respectable gun owner. If not, I think god for Darwin, just hope he doesn't anyone with his NDs.

I'm 21 and so is my range partner, we went out with our new steyr's and where shooting a bit fast, alternating I guess it sounded like we where really going at it. Then this burned out hippie type comes over and asks if we're practicing for drive by's. I'm wearing a pair of cargo pants and a t-shirt, my boxers aren't hanging and i'm not sagging, we're not shooting gangster style or anything suggestive that we're anything other than two guys having fun. and this rude prick is threatening to eject us from the range. I highly doubt if we had been 40 y/o with the same guns doing the same thing he would have been so rude and kept the gangbanger comments to himself and maybe have been a little bit more respectable. They know they're the only outdoor range for miles so they can treat people like that I suppose... At least until we start our own range and put them out of business.

Eh, sorry about the rant, just wanted to say that youth isn't doomed to slingin' a gat at the range for practice at school the next day. Some of us are trying to make a good name for the next generation.

What's so ironic about the gun situation in the US is it is typically the anti-gun leftist Hollywood types that glorify this image of 'cool tactical' guns that every gangbanger or tactical tommy wants to go buy.

People who are really into guns don't give a hoot what Vin Diesel or whoever used in the latest no plot, blow-stuff-up pointless action movie of the month.

SamLautRanger.

Dude, you got the life. Your in Cambodia now and moving to Argentina. Both places where I love. Man, how do I get a job like yours.

Idiots like that should not be let into the range in the first place.

I have no problem with letting them into the range.....as long as they enter throught the backdoor near the backstop :D

You think the ADA would complain if you put "handicapped" entrance and a stick figure with a hole in it's head getting off the short bus?

Was at a indoor range once. 2 drunk guys and one drunk girl came in and they put them on the lane next to me. I get nervous about ANY morons shooting around me but this group was a classic. The girl kept pionting the muzzle in my direction WITH HER FINGER ON THE TRIGGER. I told her to be carefull. Then one of the guys started waving the Hi Power around also WITH HIS FINGER ON THE TRIGGER.I left.About 6 weeks later I heard on the news where a girl at this same range shot herself and bled to death before she got to the hospital.Don't know if it was the same moron.

Range was not in Cambodia, but outside of Lafayette, Indiana. Linden Conservation Club. I am back home in Indiana for a short while and enjoying myself going shooting as much as possible, seeing family, and training with a few fellow THR members/good friends.

Haha thanks for the laugh :D

Sounds like an interesting day at the range SamlautRanger. :what: Reminds me of the time I was at a range, and I saw a guy miss a huge target at under 6 feet away. After seeing that I ended up leaving the range in short order. That guy was hitting more concrete then paper, I don't know how he did it, but I wasn't going to be his next accident :what:

a chunk of his foot actually came off? Or that was figuratively speaking? Range officer...what's that? ...we self-police down here too, at most ranges, so the safety level is only as strong as the weakest link.

I test blank-fire hanguns at the indoor range sometimes. Guys at the other stalls must think my aim really sucks.

To the member from Indy that sent me a question. Yes you are right. That was the shop. I now shoot at Pop Guns on Post road. Great shop. Great people. I tried to email you back but something didn't work.

Know the place well. We used to be members when we lived in Lafayette, mainly because it was the closest and least expensive place available. Had been with Wildcat Valley, but left when it got too expensive for us to afford at the time. Now it's just too far away. Pity; it's got the best facilities within a very long drive by a wide margin.

Aside from the constant factional bickering within the club itself, my main concern was the type of behavior SamLaut describes. Virtually no enforcement of range safety rules, constant access and use of the facilities by non-members, and slobs who'd never police-up their mess and destroy target stands, benches, chairs, etc. eventually drove us off.

Our present club is the Crawfordsville Gun Club near Darlington. Good bunch of folks, working together to make it a better place for all of us. While our facilities are still pretty basic, we're making steady progress with improving both maintenance and upgrades. As more and more folks have taken a real 'proprietary' interest in the club, the incidences of 'slob' behavior have gone 'way down as the bad apples are steadily weeded-out. We no longer will tolerate slobs, trespassers, or morons who ignore range safety rules. As soon as the new resident Range Officer/caretaker settles-in I expect things to get even better.

Folks in the West-Central Indiana area interested in joining a club commited to promoting the shooting sports in a safe, family-oriented environment can contact Robert J.K. (Bob) Edmonds, 2188 S. 550 E., Crawfordsville, In 47933 for details, or PM me for other contact data.
