For me, it'd be the Kel Tec RFB, no experience with one...but I'll update when I find one. ;)

If you want something more conventional, the FAL would be my second choice.

:)

I'm sure every one of the rifles you listed on the poll would probably serve you well, some are more expensive than others. I think it'd probably come down to personal preference. Of the rifles listed I've only experience with the G3 (PTR-91) and M1A and have only held an FAL.
I prefer the M1A.

if price is no object, Garand, otherwise go with an SKS. All in all if I had to carry and maintain one, it would be an sks. Simple, reliable and fairly accurate.

You won't do better than a RRA. 8 lbs, 1moa, great trigger, very tight and reliable. Much better than my dpms.

i waited for a while to pick up a 308 'battle' rifle and finally decided on a winchester sx-ar (fn-ar branded for winchester in the mossy oak pattern). i love the rifle. the only downside i have with it is the lack of iron sights and the magazine cost ($60+ for any capacity).

Have to echo rangerruck and add the possibility of a Remington 760 with 10-rd mag: bolt accuracy in a rifle you can cycle as fast as you can regain the sight picture. Love my Saiga 308v.21

Can I just add that the Saiga308v.21 (thumbhole stock) is a darn fine-lookin' weapon?

Huh? Your taste in rifles is sorta funny. I can't say it is a bad rifle, cause it ain't...but it sure isn't much of a looker either, not by my eyes anywho.

:)

If you have the money I'd go for a LWRC .308 battle rifle. But thats only if you have around $2300 dollars to spend. So I voted for the DSA FAL because you can get one for $1500 to $2000. I like the M1a but I love the FAL's ergonomics and general feel. I haven't shot one yet, but they are supposed to be highly accurate. That said my experience with the M1a was extremely impressive. The Socom was a little to be desired but the full length version tickled my need for a .308, which I haven't yet acquired.

Well, Mav, I guess I meant it in the way sometimes a girl all slutted-up in slit skirts and lots of makeup looks good. The basics are still solid, like the nice grain in the wood of a Saiga308v.21, but the look is unconventional, maybe a little sassy and confrontational.

But mostly my tastes are mor traditional, like yours I would guess. I'm a sucker for nice woodgrain...

Yep, don't get me wrong I like a nice black rifle, but I favor a nice hunk of walnut and deep blue over most else.

:)

i believe he has 7.62x51 in mind, so no sks.

(but i do like your garand idea, because ive got 2 in 30-06 and they are fantastically accurate)

I am somewhat torn between the M1A and AR.

I have owned a couple FN-FALs (The real ones) and they are very reliable, but were not as accurate as I am. I had a Brazilian made version imported by Springfield as well. It had all sorts of problems.

Same for the HK products which are over engineered. Plus the real HKs are rough on brass.

The RFBs are still an unknown as far as long term use goes. There is not enough info yet available from owners who actually shoot them a lot.

As far as M1As go some I have owned were real tack drivers and some were not. The National Match and Super Match that I used to have were real tack drivers, but they had a weight problem for long term carry.
The current shorty M1A I now have still weighs more than it should and having the short barrel kills off velocity and accuracy. (The only two reasons to have a 7.62x51mm Rifle)

The assorted 308 size ARs seem to have good accuracy and will still have enough muzzle velocity to do something as long as you don't get carried away with the short barrel business.
