Want a decent gun safe..

I'm moving, and always have been rightfully paranoid..

But, I have a few hundred dollars that I can invest in a gun safe. It will be in a closet with a deadbolt, and lag-bolted to the floor for extra security.

Right now I just have a gun cabinet with a glass front , in a closet with a deadbolt.

So, I'm thinking any level of safe would be an upgrade. Someone would have to be really determined, know what I have, and have enough time to break in, then break into the locked closet, and defeat the safe or its bolts in the floor.. so I'm thinking a cheaper safe would be a good solution, especially with having a rooommate who has a gun, and I have dogs.. and always lock my doors and windows..

With all that being said... is there a gun safe in the few hundred dollar range that offers a decent degree of protection against theft?

Seems pretty rugged for the money. there is a 14 gun model too, I need to check the dimensions of the closet tomorrow. apparently they will ship it to my curb for an additional 97 cents.

There are You Tube videos which you should check out of $1,000 gun safes being pried open in about 2 minutes, and the Walmart kind of gun safe in about 15 seconds. Granted, the theives have the safe on its back giving them maximum leverage, but still....? I think at these price ranges, having a safe may help the burglar more than you since it saves them the time of finding and collecting all your valuables.

a good gun safe is but u haft to think about the possibilty that someone can take the hole safe,depending on how big it is.think about putting an alarm on the safe it works really well.

^^ I was just about to make the same suggestion as ROAshooter.
If you can find a low price gun safe that has at least a 12 gauge body with a plate steel door,and they are made,but are usually imports,and it's bolted down where a prying attack is difficult to perform inside a locked closet you will be doing very well.

If you have a Tractor Supply in Missouri they sell Canon safes at reasonable prices. They'll typically have 2 or 3 inventory reduction sales per year.

Don't forget to get insurance on the firearms. The NRA provides some level of insurance if you send in the documents every year and are an NRA member.

The best safe deals at Tractor Supply was on Black Friday. They do offer several sizes. I would check out the local Craigs List type ads. You could always call around to the nearby locksmiths searching for a used model with great bones...

I like the Winchester Safes and the Canon too! I like the pistol pockets inside my Winchester and at about $699 all the time and I seen this safe go for nearly Half price on Black Friday....should have bought a couple more of them!

Unsurprisingly, there are no "good gunsafes" at your $300 price point, but you can find a steel box with a lock that will be more secure than a glass front display gun cabinet following the recommendations given. Don't overpay for something labeled as a gun "safe" that is no more secure than a sturdy toolbox. Job Box boxes are intended to keep people stealing tools out.
