Wow quoting new prices on used guns, havent seen that in awhile. What I dont get is what he is trying to trade it for? Is it hot? Is he an anti- who got it in a will? I wonder if he would trade me for a Phillips Tv and an old Kenwood Stereo, probably paid that for them in the 90's.

well, if the price includes the cases and shipping its a bargin

if you happen to be Ray Walston

Umm... he was just saying "I paid $3750 and I'll take $3000".

I agree 80% of new is high for used gear yet many people seem to think it's reasonable. Even on this forum people constantly say that $400+ ($450 is usually what people say) is a "reasonable" price for a used glock. The most expensive 40cal glock is $530ish w/ night sights brand new so the "buy a used glock for only $450" crowd are advocating paying 85% of full retail. This guy isn't that bad in comparison at 80% of full retail.

His biggest mistake is listing all of it for one price. If listed seperately and he doesn't get in a hurry he could most likely get his money back.

After all haven't WE been telling our WIVES that guns are a good investment that only go up in value?

Umm... he was just saying "I paid $3750 and I'll take $3000".

So he paid $1700 for that AR? :scrutiny:

Ameetec lowers (until about a month ago) have been $200 for a very long time. $250 with tax and/or shipping with FFL. So that leaves $1450 for the DPMS upper. I don't follow DPMS all that closely, but I don't know of any uppers they make worth even close to that.

Don't Glocks come with 2 magazines? Why does it list 4 with a value when it lists the price of the pistol new also?

I think I could track down everything in that picture for $2000.

Yeah, $1700 seems a bit rich for any AR...I wouldn't pay that. $250 for the lower, $525 for the upper, a few hundred for the "lots of custom parts". From the picture it looks like a choate stock (I could be wrong) so that's another $140 or so. Who knows what the other "custom" stuff is but you can put an insane amount of money into a gun if you are silly enough to do so. Look at all the people with $1000 mini-14s.

I agree he wants too much. I suspect that his numbers are correct though... he probably paid $3700ish for all that stuff, and he has probably thinks 80% is a fair return. That's the nutty part. 30% on accessories and 50% on guns is closer to the mark.

He says there is allot of custom stuff on the AR. I wish he would explain what all it is. That may clear some things up a bit. I don't follow the subject market too much but Ruger Mini 30s sell across the road for around $700 and the Glock doesn't sound too crazy either. Provided he actually has $1700 worth of stuff on that AR, which is quite possible, it could be a reasonable bargain. I've seen ARs like that get in to the $4000 ballpark before. I DO agree that he would do better selling it of in bits and pieces. Then again, he could be a recently convicted felon, paying a medical bill or leaving the country and selling everything off ASAP. That's usually the case from my experience anyway.

I'm not seeing $1700 for the AR. Here's what I'm seeing.

Best offer cash for the lot. Would consider trades of almost anything of value: Jewelry, electronics, sporting goods, etc or would take $2000 for everything

Like loki.fish above, I was wondering where you guys were getting that $1700 figure for the AR.. Has the ad changed ? It looks to me like it says value on the AR is $1200.

Maybe I'm missing what the fuss is about. He's listed what he paid for stuff, whether he overpaid doesn't really matter, then he says at the bottom:

Best offer cash for the lot. Would consider trades of almost anything of value: Jewelry, electronics, sporting goods, etc or would take $2000 for everything

You are ragging on the guy for advertising "Best Cash Offer"?

Well... at a guess he's reading this.

He started off saying it was worth $3745 but he'd take around $3000.

The ad has changed. Now it says he paid $3200 and he'll take around $2000.

The latter is far more reasonable IMO. He wants 63% of (claimed) new retail price now... that's a lot closer to the mark than 80%.

I haven't checked to see whether the items listed for sale are the same or if he parted off one item to cause the prices to go down. If not.... firesale.

$2000 is far from outrageous for the lot

I have seen a lot of listings where the seller lists the price paid or MSRP along with the value of the accessories as a sales tool

Another common sales toll is to lower the price as interests wanes or does not materialize
I typically start at about 15% to 20% above my bottom line and adjust accordingly

I rarely have to go to my bottom line

Hello-o?

one of the nice parts about living in the states is that you have the freedom to do some really silly things.

like ask whatever you want for whatever you have.

or, better yet, pay whatever someone wants for whatever he has.

many times I see sellers right here on THR who try to sell something at a pretty steep markup. the worst offenders are actually the C&R folks, of which I am one. I suspect they figure that they'll keep throwing it out there... and eventually someone will come along who will jump on it without thinking since they are new to the C&R game, and then feel obligated to go through with it regardless.

I don't make comments then, and won't here, on what I feel the guy should sell for.

He started off saying it was worth $3745 but he'd take around $3000.

That price drop is huge. Either the seller is incredibly lacking in the knowledge of his products (to make that drastic correction) or something else. Makes me (and should make anyone) wonder about the legal disposition of the items. All IMO, of course, and I could be wrong.

Or... Maybe he just made a typo the first time he set up the ad, and then went back and corrected it after he saw it. Stuff like that happens...
