Hi,
We have a gun that was left to us and don't know anything about it, it's a Smith & Wesson 38 S&W Special CTG, has on it Made in USA Marcas Registradas Springfield, Mass. #8D03785. Please let me know if anyone can help me, thanks!!
Andrea

It could be a Model, 10,12,13,45, 64, 65, or 547 made in 1981. The 8D serial prefix covers those.

Most likely bet is the Model 10, it was the most common.

Being that it is a 38 special it drops the 13, 45,65 and 547 from Tijeras_Slim's list leaving models 10, 12, 64 and maybe a 15.
By the way Welcome to THR.

As noted the serial and 38 Special caliber makes it either a Model 10 (steel frame), Model 12 (alloy frame), or Model 64 (stainless steel).

Look here for the model number stamped on the frame under the cylinder crane. Should look like MOD 10-7 or MOD 64-3 or MOD 12-3 or something similar. The -3 etc. denotes minor engineering changes over the years.

This one pictured is a MOD 25-2.
