Hey guys. Looking to get a new polymer semiauto for range and plinking use. I have a Sigp238 and a Kimber CDP Pro I use for CCW, so this will be used mainly as a range gun.

As far as polymer goes, I have a XD-40 V-10 that I use but can't shoot lead out of due to the porting. My requirements are polymer, reliable, night sights, easy to get magazines, 9mm, able to shoot lead, cost under 700. I was leaning towards a new XD, but I've seen the FNX that I like and the smith M&P isn't bad either. I've also contemplated a CZ-75(I know not polymer) and a BHP (same). I've also thought about saying the heck with it and getting another steel framed full size Kimber (which would be the custom plain jane with adjustable sights in 45acp of course) I don't want to turn this into a band bashing thread please.

What are yalls opinions. Are there some must check outs that I'm missing?

Glock 17 with night sights and a Storm Lake barrel will give you the ability to shoot lead and still come in under $700, or maybe just a tad over.

Don't want to have to buy a different part to have it do what I want. I guess the polygonal barrel glocks are out.

I just ordered an M&P 9mm Carry/Range Kit for around $550. It comes with the gun, a blade-tech holster, double-mag pouch, 3 mags, and an uplula mag loader. I went out and rented an M&P 9 and absolutely loved it, ordered the kit less than a week later.

Yeah, you're not supposed to shoot lead in them. I've heard people say that you can do it if you clean the bore frequently, like every 20 rounds or so, but who wants to do that?

I own two M&Ps. My daily carry is a M&P 9c with around 8000 rounds through it. Its a super gun. I would definitely give them a good look.

Well, if you already have an XD40 maybe it's time to move up to the .45 ACP XDm. Mine is match accurate and I bought it in lieu of an FNP USG .45. ;)

Smith & Wesson M&P. I've shot (as a rental) a full size 9mm and owned a compact, also in 9mm. An outstanding pistol. There are a couple of longer barreled versions of the full size for competitions.

I'd just buy a Glock and shoot jacketed ammo. On the other hand the FN pistols are very, very good. If you don't like or want the Glock platform, I highly recomend the FNX.

Well, to buy a mold and let my father cast as many bullets as i want and for him to reload as much as I can shoot on his Dillon, so long as I supply powder and primers every now and then, is a deal too good to pass up. So I need to be able to shoot lead.

Hmmmm, just realized that SA had a 3 free mag promo going. That just might be enough to tip the scale for me to get the new 4.5" XDM in 9mm. What's a fair going price in the ATL, GA area for the black vs Bi-Tone on that model? I think they come with 2 mags already, so an extra 3 mags would be downright awesome.

It is starting to sound like one of, and possibly the best poly gun out there right now is the Walther PPQ. After all I have read about this gun, I am convinced it could become the gun that may finally talk me out of carrying my Glock23 that I've had since 1993.

Wow, to end an 18 year relationship, the PPQ must be impressive. We men... always looking for a younger lady.

I just purchased the XDM 9mm with the 5.25" Match grade barrel. It comes in a nice case which includes 3 magazines, a mag pouch, holster, bullet loader, cleaning brush, etc. Right now Springfield Armory has a promotion where you also get another 3 mags and another mag pouch....nice incentive to buy! I'm very impressed with its accuracy and its been shooting lead just fine. I'm now contemplating getting one in .40 caliber with the 4.5" barrel...I like them that much. I purchased mine from Springer Precision in Bend, Oregon. They are specialists with the XD and the XDM platforms. I had them do some extra work (competition/combat trigger) on mine and am so happy with their work. The trigger now feels more like my Kimber Pro Carry II...and I prefer that crisp break and short reset. Check out their website....springerprecision.com

I started to mention the FN as you already have a Sig ( there's some similarities), but I went back and re-read that yours is a 238.

I just brought my FNP-9 home and can't comment on it's attributes jsut yet. However, I did carry the S&Walther P99 (which I think those Baby Eagle folks market now too) while I worked for an SO in Colorado. I was conviced I was going to prove it as a peice of junk throughout an instructors school. I was wrong- I couldn't make the thing mis-behave.
