So, my idea of the perfect rifle is miles away from what most others might desire. Honestly, if I were to have this thing built, it'd have to be completely from scratch, starting from the ground up.
I'd like to share with you my idea of the coolest rifle ever and have you contribute your thoughts, but please don't post such things as "why would you want that?" or "why not just take a ---- and do ---- to it?"
Also, if anyone knows a skilled gunsmith who would be willing to undertake a huge project like this, please inform me.
Here are the specs...
-Bolt action, built on either a Type 99 Arisaka style action. VERY easy to disassemble and clean, fairly accurate.
-Chamber tolerances and headspace slightly loose to allow compatibility with cheap, dirty ammo and to increase reliability and ease of cycling the action in filthy conditions.
-Chambered in an intermediate caliber, most likely 5.56/.223, but 5.45x39 and 7.62x39 are also possibilities.
-1:9, all-purpose twist rate. Most likely shooting 62 gr bullets.
-If possible, polygonally rifled barrel (like the Cz.82) for ease of cleaning.
-Barrel interior heavily chrome-lined.
-Interior of bolt housing, cocking knob, and firing pin/firing pin spring also chrome lined.
-Approximately 18"-20" barrel.
-Fixed iron sights. Rear ghost ring with threaded interior for screw-in fine aperture like Enfield No.4 (action likely needs to be altered to make room for). Similar to 1903A3, with adjustment from 50 meters to 500 meters, in increments of 50 meters, elevation adjusted for 5.56/.223 trajectories. Rear sight adjustable for windage. Fixed front sight like Enfield No.4 pattern. All tritium enhanced, preferably in red.
-10 round, removable box magazine. Receiver with stripper clip guide, for AR-15 chargers. Magpul spring and follower.
-All steel flat, medium grey parkerized.
-Straight bolt handle, textured on underside to minimize slippage.
-Slightly widened trigger guard for gloved hands.
-Glassy trigger set at about 3 lbs. Simplest trigger design possible.
-Rounded edge steel buttplate with trapdoor for cleaning kit in tube, like SKS.
-Tough, lightweight polymer stock set in original Type 99 pattern, complete with finger grooves, but with straight stock grip like Soviet Mosin Nagant. Flat duracoat finished in a medium brown/tan/medium green multicam color scheme, digital patterned. If just a fun gun, red/black/white in German Fallschirmjaeger pattern, because this looks awesome.
-Standard threaded barrel for AR-15 devices. Want to use a birdcage pattern flash hider/muzzle brake.
EITHER...
-Spring loaded, flip out spike bayonet like SKS, locks to barrel. 8 inch spike.
OR...
-Compatibility with U.S. bayonets for M1 Garand and 1903 Springfield.
-Mini 6" bipod, folding, lightweight, fits in stock recesses like FAL bipod. Probably cannot be used while bayonet is in use, but if possible, would be great.
-Custom stampings on barrel above receiver. Stampings and sight-adjustment numbers/notches etc. red enamel filled.
Yes, this is one weird rifle, but it appeals to my strange tastes. I want a reliable, fairly accurate, shorter barreled, versatile weapon, and this fills all those spots.
