My local dunhams sporting store has a full case of NIB WASR-10's for 300 dollars a piece. I've been thinking of getting something to lob some shells down range, rather than sticking to the handgun and shotgun benches. Other than the cool factor of having an AK hanging on my wall, is the WASR-10 a dependable and at least reasonably accurate weapon? It'll only be used for an at the range fun gun, nothing more. But, I dont want to spend what little money I have on something thats going to give me problems, or frustrate the hell out of me by missing targets at 100 yards.

Thanks :)

A few friends have them and they are more accurate than most people think. They are fun to shoot

I own a WASR-10 and it's well worth $300. The wood isn't finished well at all but it is a real AK which means it will go boom when you pull the trigger. The fit-n-finish isn't the best but they work. As for the wood, nothing a little Tung Oil won't fix.

WASR-10's are nice. If it's around $300 you will need a dremel tool to widen out the magazine well. The double stack rifles were selling for between $350-400. I forget which.

Beauty part about mine is the muzzle. Mine had a cap soldered on but the dremel fixed that. Now I can mount nice AK-74 style compensator on mine. 14mm counterclockwise threads.

Be careful when shooting it. I've only experienced this on one WASR, but I hear they are notorious for trigger slap, and my finger has been bitten several times. This can be fixed with a dremel tool and some research as well.

Easy to strip and clean, and eats anything. Good find.

Uhh, no buddy. I got double stack for 300. Granted, today the prices are raised, but maybe what the OP is describing are old stock rifles that were acquired by that particular Dunhams before the price increase from Century Arms.

These are the century arms built wasr-10's, (not sure if there's anyone else who makes the wasr-10, i'm kinda in the dark). The advertisement says its the double stack, so If I do get this, i wont need to get out my dremel. I'm unsure about the ammo though, i believe its the 7.62, but dont quote me.

im laughing at myself right now, because i know i'll probably be back on here within a couple days with a picture of one fresh out of the store.

im going to look at one for 50-75$ more than that price. and this is a nuetured MA version with out bayo lug

make sure the sights are straight and not canted, test fit a mag into the mag well it should be snug to tight (tight is an easy fix loose is not) if its wobbly or loose move on to the next rifle and start inspecting all over again do not settle for one with canted sights or a sloppy magwell period

do not settle for one with canted sights or a sloppy magwell period

I LOVE a sloppy mag well. Mine has one and it's completely reliable. Mag changes are abnormally fast. It's not to loose but it's good enough. It doesn't wobble back and forth nor up and down, but side to side.

check and check. i also checked for a canted gas block. the mag well had a tight fit and a small about of wobble.

Newer WASR-10s are coming with the Tapco G2 trigger and have no trigger slap. I paid $360 for my WASR back in the spring and have been very happy with it.

I handled a WASR-10 a few days ago but they wanted way too much for it.

A wallowed out mag well can allow the magazine to fit as if it's in the locked position when it's not locked. I was having trouble with inserting the mag on this particular rifle. The guy looked at me like I was daft and then tried it himself. Took about 5 tries for him to do it.

The Tapco trigger is sweet for an AK.

I'd check the sights, check the mag well, check the trigger. If it's good, for $300 I'd buy it even though I'm not in the market for one. (You know how it goes :D)

Coincidently, just bought one of these today. A Romanian/Century WASR 10 for $329. Came with 2 30 shot mags, cleaning kit and a sling.

Went to the gun store and nothing really caught my eye. Bought the Romanian rifle and a Ruger SP101 speed loader.

Not really my sort of gun, but what the heck, might be fun. Ain't never had an AK style rifle before. I have a couple SKS rifles I rarely shoot, so maybe an AKM clone will revive all the fun I used to have with the SKS rifles.

Have not shot it yet, but will tell you how it does when I do.

I just picked up a WASR at a gun show in Tyler,tx for 375 with 2 30 rd mags, sling, cleaning kit and a few other things I havent looked at in the box.
The wood...heh...it looks like someone used a screwdriver and formed the stock out of a 2x4 but the finish of the gun itself is nicer than Im used to seeing on them so it works out.
Almost picked up a G3 clone,50 mags and an extra folding stock for 800 but didnt wanna part with the cash..Id rather have an FAL clone

Huh, just so happens I just did the fix to my WASR GP an hour ago. Last time to the range was the last time I would ever let that gun's trigger hurt my finger again. After 2 magfuls, that was it for me.

Describe the canted sights, as in how will i know if they're bad? The loose mag is self explanatory. and also, how can i look at the trigger assembly and see if its the G2 that you speak of?

You will know the sights are canted as soon as you put the stock to your shoulder, trust me. When they are canted, they are canted.
