Anyone catch the premiere of Weaponizers on the Discovery Channel tonight?

For those of you unfamiliar with the show here is the sneak peek on youtube...

This show might have some potential once the refine some of the finer points. After seeing it I didn't see anything really bad about the show, it's certainly more entertaining than a lot of the crap you see on tv these days. Also it seems to me that they are trying to squeeze a lot into a one hour segment so I imagine a lot get cut out in the final edit. As far as mindless entertainment goes there's a lot of other tv shows that would be more painful to sit through.

Also keep in mind this is the premiere and premiere's usually suck so maybe as the show matures it will improve. Like I said the show has potential they just need to refine it and work out the kinks me thinks. To the kid in me the show is kind of appealing but to the critic in me there are a few things they need to improve on to make the show better.

Not as innovative as Junkyard Wars but satisfying... you catch that was filmed at Front Sight?

There has to be a budget for each team. Right? Because he who has the most money should win, but maybe.

Also, what is the best approach, a defense, or an offense, or a perfect combo of each?

Someone else who knows Car Wars! I still have most of my stuff around somewhere, haven't played a game since the mid 80s, though.
Gonna look at thier website, see if the premier is online yet.

To anybody that saw it:

Did they actually mount the GE Minigun and the M1919 on the cars and shoot AT each other?

I'm just wondering how they either (A) convinced the military to let them play with them and possibly destroy them, (B) convinced a private owner to let them possibly destroy their $75,000 worth of machine guns, or (C) convinced the TV network to buy them $75,000 worth of machine guns to possibly destroy.

I may be missing something...

Kind of Blued,

I was wondering the same thing. With everything they were throwing around, it seemed likely that one of those 1919's would get damaged.

Nearly all TV and Movie productions using real machineguns get the guns from a small number of companies that rent them out to the production.

Most of these are SOT manufacturers and C3 dealers.

Very unlikely that any of that stuff was pre-86.

Used to be one here in Texas that specialized in WWII guns, halftracks, scout cars, etc. Can't remember their name now.

I watched the similar show on the Military Channel, "Weapons Masters". I was horrified by the repeated violations of the most elementary firearms safety rules. The guy who looks like a cross between Rasputin and Tommy Chong repeatedly swept, and actually pointed a muzzle loader at his partner.

And people are wondering why there is a shortage of .223 and .308 with all of these shows with a Dillon 134 spitting them out like a firehose.

I thought it was fun but I don't think the show will last long, there is only so much you can do before it gets old. I have been watching the Da Vinci nuts and its amazing that those guys can even get anything done with all the infighting, also is the ego wars of Deadliest Warriors, at times I swear the Asian guys were going to go hari kari on the other team.

Seems to me like America is advancing to a Mad Max society, course with guns being confiscated it only leaves other methods like those air powered spears which I would dearly love to use on a tailgater!

I didn't care for the show, Discovery really needs to step up their programming in my opinion. If I wanted to watch explosions and shooting and stuff I'd just look for youtube videos.

Add Mantracker to the list of disappointments.

These two guys on horse are supposedly chasing down two people on foot that have a significant head start; they must be captured before reaching a safe zone some 20+ kilometers away. The prey is 'running for their lives" while the Mantracker speeds through varying terrain on horseback, all the while with dashing camera angles. :uhoh:

I can't even say Mantracker without grinning. :p

I watched part of it and was struck by one inescapable fact.

It has to be a new all-time low in programming.

All the fake explosions with the MG's shooting in the dirt 20 yards away?

One RV stuck on a hay bale in one frame, then proceeding on without the hay bale one frame later.

As for the action Reality Show, Manly Man infighting?
It all started with OCC & the Tutel bickering.

Now, all the copy-cat shows are doing it too.

Stupid show. It wasn't even like Junkyard Wars or Monster Garage where you actually see them build the vehicle. Could have been good, but wasn't.

I was sadly disappointed as well. The guys on this show are over the top and have to be acting. The stuff is all heavily staged. And all I could think of --John Browning must be rolling in his grave.

I have not seen this yet, but I'm going to try to look at it as an entertainment factor, and not try to criticize it from every aspect of reality, as in looking at it from a layman's perspective.
