I have a buddy who asked me about a deal on a Vanguard at Walmart. It's a 30-06 and has a tan spiderweb stock. I know the Vanguard is very similar to the Howa 1500, but has anyone bought one of these or checked them out. I plan to check it out when I get to walmart next but just thought that maybe someone here has one. So whats the word on these.

I picked one up at a different retailer. It works just fine, shoots just over 1MOA. The price is hard to beat :)

Exceptional rifles, and come with a factory target showing 3-shot group at 100 yards. The price may vary wildly because WalMart may want to sell. The last one I bought at WalMart was $250.00, and they now sell for $399.00 to $425.00 in most sport shops. Excellent rifle!

I have a Vanguard Sporter (wood stock) in 308 Win. I love it! It is a very accurate gun. All Vanguards come with a test target and are guaranteed to shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards. Mine does slightly better.

The only real knock on the Vanguard is the barrel heats up quickly opening up the groups considerably in rapid fire. Since it only holds five shots, its not really a major issue.

I have one in .223 and like it, but I'm not much of a bolt gun guy, but I will probably pick one up in 30-06 eventually.

Nice touch is the test target says what brand of ammo they used for the test.

IMHO this is the best rifle for the money! I strongly recommend this rifle. I purchased a 7mm Remington Mag Vanguard from WalMart about 10 years ago. I mounted a Leupold VariX2 on it. With factory nosler balistic tip loads, I could consistently get all shots, in a (3) shot group, to touch at 100yds.
