So after over-torquing a bolt on a Burris ring (Burris replaced the bolt free of charge) I've decided to finally invest in a torque wrench. I'm split between the two following very similar designs:

The Weaver Torque Wrench -
http://www.opticsplanet.net/weaver-gunsmithing-torque-wrench.html

The Borka Torque Wrench -
http://www.borkatools.com/pages/atd644b/atd644b.html

They look very similar and that is because they are actually the same wrench, manufactured by the same Taiwanese company. The Weaver wrench from Optics Planet is $12 cheaper because I wouldn't have to pay shipping. I don't really need the extra accessories that come with the Borka Torque Wrench (got all the bits I need). So the make-or-break question is: can the bit holder on the Weaver be taken off to expose a 1/4" shaft, to which I can attach a standard socket? This can definitely be done on the Borka. This is very important as a lot of picatinny and weaver rings have 1/2" hex nuts for mounting.

Any help from anyone with experience with this wrench?

I've got the Weaver unit. My only complaint is the numbers are hard to read if you have old tired eyes, other then that its a nice unit. Its not cheap, and has some weight behind it. No the hex drive cannot be removed but you can get an adapter for a few buck so you could use 1/4 sockets.

I actually e-mailed Weaver and they gave me the same response (the bit holder can't be removed). I'm going with the Borka. Yeah, $12 extra for shipping, but I don't have to buy an adapter. Plus, the vendor is a gun forum guy (dunno if he's registered here, but he hangs out on a few other boards I'm a member of)

Nyrifleman,

You're correct that Weaver appears to be the same design as my Borka Tools ATD-10x80-CRS, except for the shorter spindle, which also does not have 1/4sq. drive. The other major difference, as you correctly pointed out, is that I offer 32 custom bits, which I've specified to the supplier as being the most commonly used for gunsmithing. Those are of excellent quality, but if you do not need them, go with the Weaver offering. You can get good quality 1/4" hex to 1/4" square adapter from McMaster Carr, item # 52735A21, for $1.50 + shipping:

After Weaver started offering the same design approximately 6 months after I brought it to the U.S. market, I kind of lost interest in this particualr product line and will not be importing this type of torque tool any more. Instead, I'll be concentrating on further development and expansion of production for my own design multi torque drivers and tool kits, made in the U.S.A.
