I'm running into an issue with my 930SPX that's defying easy diagnosis. I've got over a thousand rounds thru the sucker. The gun's been great up until now and a real value, but now it's goofing up on me in a peculiar way:

  • In any given range session, I can run 8-10 rounds through it without any issues whatsoever.
  • After the first mag or so, it develops problems firing a shell: I'll pull the trigger but the pin never makes contact with the primer. A bolt rack and an ejected shell makes the next shell shoot, but the one after that (that's loaded by the action itself) won't fire, but it will when I rack the action by hand. The ejected unfired shell is free from any firing pin impressions.
  • After 5-6 rounds of that happening, the gun fails to eject a fired shell and I have to work the action with ever-increasing force in order to get it to eject and load a shell, whereupon I get angry with the gun and go on to shoot something else i brought with me. :D
This cycle of initially working, then not firing, then jamming has happened at the last three times I've shot this gun, and it's happened about 3-4 weeks apart. Ammo that's been causing these problems has been a mix of everything: From Rio slugs to Federal Hi-Brass to cheapo WalMart game loads. no matter the ammo, I get the same results. I've loved the gun up until now, but I'm about ready to send it back to Mossberg to see what they make of it. Before I do that, though, I'd see if I can solicit some advice here.

Thanks.

I hate to ask, but have you ever completey taken it apart & cleaned & lubed it??
Including the gas system?

No problem, that's a very valid question, and yes, both myself and a local gunsmith.

In fact the problems started happening after the smith got his mitts on it.

You might look for a damaged or reversed gas seal ring.

The angled surface of the seal ring must face outward.
