I realize a lot of people like w@ mart and can defend it. There are also people whos sensibilities are offended by how they treat customers, employees and vendors. There are those who dislike the fact that this company goes to china and shows them how to make things in order to undercut US manufacturing.
But all that aside, if you love the place, don't care about having your freedom held ransom over a demand to see a receipt at the door, don't really care about American jobs, do you have to give endless free publicity on message boards for this business?
I realize I am the barking dog and WalMrt is the moving car, and I apologize, you know Neandertal dna and all...

From Walmart or otherwise, Savage doesn't skimp on their bottom-line stuff. The trigger is stiff but without creep or overtravel, and the stocks may be cheap material but they're still made well. Right out of the box I can knock dimes off a post at 50 yards with one or two of the bulk-box offerings. I'm not a bad shot, but I'm far from a competitive shooter.
Slapped a Simmons scope on it, cost maybe $120.

mshootnit, I have responses in mind to your post. However, this is a thread on the idea that a decent rimfire rifle could have been sold for $99, even if the exact same rifle, built to the same quality, could have been marked at $169 at a small gun shop. Threads on the business practice of Wal-Mart tend to get closed pretty quickly, even if the thread opened as something else.

For those reasons, I'm out.

I have the heavy barrel version of that rifle, cost a bit more than $99 but not bad. Works properly and is decently accurate. It does mangle bullets on the way to the chamber which is probably why it isnt a dime shooter at 50. Overall good value, will blow squirrels' brains out and make nice meals.

I am glad the Savage works for $99. Last gun I bought at Walmart was a Mossberg plinkster 22lr. Man, that thing was a turd. It is now my Camo paint test bed. Works pretty good for that.

so I picked up this fine rifle and been playing with it and at $99 I thought well heck you can't buy a used 22 rifle for that on the street even tho I own a ruger 10/22 and henry h001 leveraction rifle in which I really like! but I thought lets try this little gun out so after getting this in which was a nearly two weeks ago then I became very sick so I couldn't play with it until this week! so of course been trying different ammos I had and found out this little rifle turned out to be very good infact shoots super accurate groups better than my ruger 10/22 does using the federal value pack 325rnd 36gr cphp at 1260fps so I couldn't believe how good this rifle does and functions! I did find out the federal automatch it didn't cycle the bolt back enough and it didn't like them anyway groups wasn't that great but with those other federal shells it did perform super good! so I guess the old sayin is true don't judge a book by it's cover because it might surprise you! so I really like this savage 22 rifle and are excited to go hunt some squirrels and rabbits this fall! so anyone else tried this savage model 62f and your thoughts and experiences? ;)

I buy following things when I stop at Warmart: piece or two of fresh salmon, Normandy Blend frozen vegetable mix, Irish butter/cheese, fresh beats, Pellegrino water, Halal chicken meat, and Winchester 1oz 16ga shotgun shells made in Australia. Yes, Walmart is good place to buy few select items.

well give it a good cleaning and lock the bolt back in the recess and load magazines and set aside to help soften springs each time while setting at home not in use! work with it a while and keep it clean it will loosen up and work well! plus cci mini mags solid nose makes it play well! just friendly advise ;)

I'm back after a month or so of magazine training of my F62. Cramming the magazines full and leaving them that way had no effect on spring tension. Both magazines jam 100% with 6 or more rounds loaded. Two other bugaboos about the rifle. The magazine release spring is too strong. It takes the skin offa' my fingers! The bolt charging handle is too small for me too. The gun still performs accurately and is a pleasure to shoot those other 5 rounds that are in the clip! :) Maybe disassembling a clip and taking the temper out of the spring in one place will remedy the jam problem.
Ya' know Henry Ford, as a youngster, made his own springs with steel wire!!!! I am not too old to learn a new trick.

Well I guess I got lucky. Cleaned her up, loaded up some Remington golden bullets (yeah I know but they were cheap) and had at it. Fired 120 rounds and 1 failure to feed (operator error) and 1fail to fire, turned out to be a faulty round. Adusted the sights as they were off a ways.

Pretty happy so far. Trigger isn't real heavy and it shoots straight. Now for a scope.

I will prob grab a few more as they come back into stock and save them for gifts.
