Traffic wasn't too bad, oddly enough, on Christmas Eve. While I was shopping I swung through the firearm section, and here's what i saw, here in the Southern half of Arizona -
Plenty of rifles and shotguns on the rotating racks, as long as you aren't looking for anything that takes a detachable magazine. Spots were still open for ARs and Minis, so they haven't discontinued them, just sold out.
Ammo shelves were an odd story - LOTS and LOTS of every type of 40SW ammo, plenty of many different types of 45ACP ammo...and 9mm was gone. One selection of 9mm, Federal 115gr PD JHP for $20 for 20,(exactly ten boxes, just put up a brand new case, maybe?), but every single other round of 9mm was bye bye. Plenty of revolver caliber ammo, lots of ammo for bolt action rifles...as long as they aren't in .223 Remington of 7.62x39mm. All that was gone.
Oddly enough, 22lr had been cleaned out, too, only a few boxes of expensive stuff left.
So, to make a long story short, if you need 40SW or 45ACP, come to WalMart in Casa Grande, AZ. I'm just gonna hit the lead pot and load a few hundred rounds this weekend - good thing I didn't listen when people told me "nobody reloads 9mm!":D

Same story here in WV/KY/OH Tri-State area. I can't find a box of 22LR anywhere. There is plenty of .40S&W, .44Mag, .380 ACP etc. but no 9mm, no .223/556, 7.62x39 or x51. There is some x54r, but the prices are up some.

people are aware that if ammo suddenly became unavailable, the most useful for trade as well as the most useful for 90% of the relevant weapons would be:
22LR
.223
9mm
.308

the basics always dissappear first.

My Walmart has a Colt M4, Bushy 16"conversion carbine, a Sig 556 Patrol and several more in the back. They have bulk ammo cans witha 5.56 on pallets and 7.62 Privi 168gr Match for $13.00 a box. They also have Mini 14 Ranch Rifles on sale.
.....and when I woke up...

.22 lr seems to be cleaned out nearly everywhere.

The local Mom & Pop large gun store I go to is stocked deep with .22 LR as well as most other calibers. Prices the same as back in October. Bulk packs and bricks $19 bucks.

The Walmart nearest to me had .357 mag, .38 spl and a few boxes of .45 acp. That was it. They arn't known for keeping the shelves stocked very well anyway.
They did have Remington Nitro 28ga shotshells. Never saw that before.

Are they going to outlaw .22LR ammo all of a sudden ? A good way to kill any gun control bill.

People are lemmings. And gun owners make no exception; just a different, better armed kind of lemming.

I was at Academy and walmart and ammo were almost cleaned out. i was looking for .22 LR and the only ones they got were the crappy Remington Golden Bullet in small boxes. At Academy they got plenty of premium self defense ammo that were high prized so they were not scoped up. Also plenty of hunting ammo. Amazing....

WalMart here is cleaned entirely of 9mm, .223, .22LR

.45ACP is only available in 20rd packs with JHP

.40 SW is available plenty

I think .45ACP should belong to the "standard" rounds like 9mm and .22LR
.40 SW I do get that it's mostly law enforcement and not really popular like 9mm and .45

The 22LR is gone because a) it's the most prevalent rifle/handgun round in America and b) it's useful to hunt small game for food.

Tin foil hat or not, people are stocking up on survival.

i was looking for .22 LR and the only ones they got were the crappy Remington Golden Bullet in small boxes

If we ever needed proof if the Remington Golden Bullets are widely believed to be crap, this is it.;)

I wanted to get the girlfriend some 40sw for her glock for Christmas. Walmart here didn't have any rimless handgun calibers in stock. I might have to teach her how to shoot my Taurus 357mag with 38sp.

the only ones they got were the crappy Remington Golden Bullet in small boxes.

The new Remington in the 225 box is significantly better than the previous. There's an extensive thread on rimfirecentral about it, including an actual Remington rep weighing in on what's different.

That is why I have several different guns that use a variety of ammo. I buy what I find as I go along....

Am visiting family in MN. Went to Walmart here and bought all the .22 they had. Federal match 40 grain 325 for 13.25. Walmart where I live didn't have any .22 ammo since before thanksgiving. Just over 100 bucks worth with tax. Had some 40 cal for 35 cents per round but no 357 or 38. Inver Grove Heights, MN was the store.

As long as we buy American ammo, we will be putting Americans back to work!

God Bless and happy holidays!

Much the same here, as early as last Saturday I was in the ammo section at Academy (needing cleaning supplies) and they had no 223, small selection of 22LR (no bricks), down to the last 2 boxes of cheap 9mm (I grabbed them) and they were out or low on a number of others, plus had 4 or 5 people at the counter buying guns, and at least 6-8 clogging the ammo aisle.

I was at Walmart today also around lunch time and all of the rimfire ammo was gone. Had a few boxes of 22 mag (the pricier versions), a mix of handgun ammo but very limited. No 9mm or 223. Some of the traditional rifle calibers, but slim pickins.

the most useful for 90% of the relevant weapons would be:
22LR
.223
9mm
.308
Lets not forget 20 & 12 ga shotgun.
There are more shotguns & .22's in closets then all the .308's,.223's, and 9mm's put together.
