I have several rounds of a particular type of .308 ammo but I don't know exactly what it is. I THINK it's some type of ammo for steel target shooting, designed to splatter/disintegrate on impact. The case head says: WINCHESTER 308 WIN
EDIT: Further digging has shown this to be what's known as "frangible" ammo. Seems that there area variety of views on whether it's good or bad, both for the gun (bore wear) and for the shooter (fumes). Anyone used it? Any first-hand negative experiences? Is the brass good for normal reloading?

If the brass is boxer primed, then yes it will work for reloading. Without a manufacturer it is hard to guess how long it will hold up through many reloads. I have used quite a bit of frangible 7.62x51 US military surplus and did not notice any ill effects. I guy I know said he had some mags he picked up in viet-nam because they only gave him 7 rounds for his m16. I though cool more AR mags. I guess he was not much of a gun guy as he unloaded 2 crates out of his truck (where do you hide 2 crates?) and when I opened them they were m14 mags full of frangible. Now I need an M1A.
