What are all the different weapons used in The Walking Dead?

One prominent weapon used for gigging walkers has been an adjustable aluminum walking Caine. Works great for poking them through chain link fencing.

Just brace yourselves... in the comic book, when they start "reloading", it takes a warehouse full of heavy equipment to crank out a couple cases of cartridges.

I was like... uhh... "my Dillon 650 can do that in an evening and it takes up a few square feet..."

Sometimes good artists and writers don't do their homework. :)
It's not a "comic book." It's a "graphic novel." They're different.

When they found the suppressors my first thought was that some poor guy died waiting for his stamps to arrive.

And didn't he say he only found the suppressors because they were in a mini fridge? You'd think in a zombie holocaust when food is scarce someone would have looked in the fridge before then.

My wife and I like to joke that the show should have been titled "How to Not Survive the Zombie Apocalypse." Because of how disinterested they seem in surviving. More of a soap opera with zombies...
That's what George Romero (Director, co-writer and producer? of the classic, "Night of the Living Dead" and others) said about the show, a soap opera.

I have seen everything from a .22 pistol to a .50 cal mounted machine gun. I have seen then use M4s on single, burst and full.
You pretty much name it, and it has killed a zombie in this movie. I haven't seen Gahlils or Sturm 44s, but I have seen several European handguns and rifles. After 5 years of watching you kinda pick up on these things.
I remember when it was a plated .357 and a bolt action .30-06 along with a 12 gauge shotgun and a Glock 40.
And the Browning HP was a nice touch, also. Along with the GI .45 1911s, etc.

He actually said it contained a .45 not .44. He conveniently left out his Colt Python revolver which is a .357.

Actually, he said "ak-47, 44 magnum, automatic weapons..." And it was a python, not an anaconda, that he left in the bag.

How are the suppressers going to help if their guns aren't threaded or if they're for the wrong caliber?

I love the show but the weapons handling is mediocre at best.

As far as AR-15's when they were in the prison that was there most common defense rifle. The had a barrel full of them in one episode. They took some glocks off some dead security guards one episode.

The worse instance of gun handling was the finale episode of season two. Herschel was firing a pump shotgun with a standard sized tube. He fired at least a hundred rounds without reloading. :D

There was a gif of it posted here one time.

Why did the producer use such a wide variety?

bikerdoc: If it was filmed in no. Georgia, maybe "FPSRUSSIA" (YouTube channel) rented the crew some of his, if not leased from "iraqiveteran8888".

I for the most part like the show, but if I start focusing on the guns too hard it just frustrates me. Guns are hardly ever portrayed accurately or used correctly by actors and the CGI muzzle flashes are annoying. IMFDb noted that some guns used don't actually exist and are just airsoft guns. Whe you have Andrew Lincoln holding his revolver a foot above his line of sight and characters using a filing cabinet for cover, gun related accuracy is obviously not a priority in the making of the walking dead.

Last week Rick hid behind a car and waited as guys with guns advanced on a group of walkers. I was laughing watching the angle of the guns as the people walked and fired fully automatic weapons pointed at an angle. The last guy, the one that Rick jumped, was firing nearly straight down. I don't think I would want to be the ones in front with the guys behind me firing at random targets.
I don't recall seeing a civilian AR in the show but I am certain there have been some. All (assault rifles) seem to be full auto and we know they aren't finding those in homes around GA.
I try not to focus on the guns because they are so varied. Maybe that is the intent...to show that they are finding guns wherever they can get them. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a political slant to it by making it look like full auto AR-47s and AK-15s and unlimited ammo full auto 50 cal shotguns are sitting in every house in America.

Never saw a single episode or even a minute channel surfing.
It doesn't make any sense to me that dead people can be killed again.
The whole zombie idea ... the way they can crawl and stagger around like that?
Heck I ain't dead, and a lot of them get around a lot better than I do.

Gimme a good old John Wayne or Clint Eastwood movie any day.

Imfdb.org (Internet Movie Firearms Database) lists just about everything used in any movie - even identifying when the film makers substitute a blank or prop gun for a real one.

There's a pretty wide variety of weapons because they're supposed to be scavenged.

There are a few quirks that annoy me:

1. The characters' impeccable marksmanship skills. They seem to all be capable of making 85-90% headshots from any distance - running or standing.
2. The guns seemingly never need to be reloaded.
and 3. The guns have NO recoil. When they fire there's generally just a flash/bang and no - a mean ZERO - muzzle flip.

They have went out of their way on several occasions though to explain that guns are a last resort weapon - they're loud, ammo is limited, and usually unnecessary against walkers. Guns tend to be reserved for large swarms of walkers or human enemies. Small groups or loner walkers get taken out with bladed or bludgeoning weapons.

Overall though, it's a great show. It's really a character-driven drama set in the backdrop of the zombie apocalypse, rather than the zombies taking front and center. That's what really makes it better than almost all previous zombie shows (and I was a fan of the genre already). Compare it to say, the new Z-Nation show on SyFy and you can tell The Walking Dead is definitely a notch above.

Kirkman has even managed to beat Romero at his own game. As much as I like them, none of Romero's "of the Dead" series can stand up to TWD.

BTW - I think the oddest gun I've seen listed for the show is a Vektor CP1 that Beth uses during Season 3. That would be a darned rare gun to just find laying around to be scavenged :). The Wiki page states that only 2000 of them were sold in the US, and MOST of those were returned for a recall.

Gun handling = terrible

I am a fan of all zombie movies and 'stuff'.

That being said ,NONE of the movies or TV shows have any respect for the actual handling and use of firearms [ or any weapon / tool ]

I too see the .22 RF as the only needed gun,and its not near an noisy indoors [ or out ].

And the constant changing and switching of guns, with NO regard for those of us who actually note as to who is / WAS carrying what = drives me nuts.

There is no reason for the director's to not show proper gun handling.

I am SURE they have very good advisors, that are totally ignored as to proper conduct with a firearm.

I would fear for my life around any of the "actors" even with a blank gun,due to their manner of handling a "gun".

The world of make believe would not suffer one bit,IF they did the safety and handling in a proper manner.

Actually they're not THAT bad on this. There's some switching as people come and go from the group, as weapons get lost, and some trading here and there, but for the most part they're good.

Example: (PS they may be some **** SPOILERS **** in here if you haven't watched the show)

Carl took a Browning BDA from Daryl in season 2 and continued to use it for the rest of the season. He changed to a Beretta 92 between seasons 2 and 3 (and has continued to use the Beretta ever since) but there was a passage of quite a few months between those seasons. It's not unreasonable for him to have changed out guns in that time frame.

Shane carried a Glock 17 for his entire run.

Rick has carried a Colt Python the whole time (sometimes picking up other guns as well, but he almost always has his Python with him).

Andrea carried a S&W 3913 (a gift from her father) throughout season 1 into season 2, when Shane gives her a Beretta 92 instead, as it held more ammo (I'm pretty sure this is the same Beretta that Rick took off of the soldier in the tank). She continues to use the Beretta afterwards.

Carol has been consistently using a Colt Detective Special since she was separated from the group. This was the same gun taken from the camper in the woods early in season 2 that was carried by Lori for the rest of the season - it makes sense that someone else would have it after her death.

Tara consistently carried an M&P until their arrival at Terminus (when it would have been taken from her).

Overall, I think they handle this pretty well - if they're separated or alone they tend to keep the weapons they have (obviously). If there's a specific attachment to a gun they tend to keep it, but if they're at camp or around a bunch of others they seem to have a general stockpile that people pull from.

That is one of the main differences in this show and every other "zombie" show I have ever watched. The zombies in TWD are really a subplot. They are used to remove characters and add excitement/scariness but the show makes it very clear that the REAL danger is the living. Conflicts between groups all trying to figure out how to survive in an apocalyptic situation arise every season from the Governor and his group up to the current Terminus group.
I guess the weapon selection is really irrelevant to the show as well. Unless you are obsessed with guns like SOME of the people on THR!

Movie magic. Threaded barrels will appear and these new suppressors will be "One caliber gits all."

Right. It has been suggested by some fans that the "Walking Dead" are not actually the reanimated corpses at all. The true "Walking Dead" are your little band of survivors.

Just another philosophical take on the tale. Nothing to do with weaponry or tactics, which have improved a little (possibly from fans' inputs).

Please forgive me going off-topic. This is a general gun discussion, after all. But we do need to refresh ourselves with a Hollywood wash every once in a while.

Jerry Miculek demonstrates "Walking Dead" weapons.

They use so many different kinds of guns in the episodes that it's hard to keep track of them. Thankfully, there are several websites out there that are keeping track of them for you - some people have way to much time on their hands. Here's a good one: Guns of the Walking Dead

Same video in both places. The second one adds some text.

they really need to bring .22lr into the show. it would work great from a safe spot. like when the zombies where in the basement. they could have just head shot them from up there then go in. a couple people in the group should be carrying 22s and a thousand rounds. but i guess they don't need it since they have aks like you mentioned.

If we can't find 22lr ammo now, how do you think we can find them in the Zombie apocalypse??? :p Lol

Unless you dig up and find every person who has been stockpiling them (easier said than done).

Another factor is that although 22lr can be lethal, zombies can take a few rounds (even head shots) to be killed. A large caliber is better suited for this.

Anyway, its a great series and probably one of the best shows on TV right now. The timing is great too with the Halloween season/Fall.

I really want to see your source on the lethality of .22LR on Zombies. :p
