What are all the different weapons used in The Walking Dead?

The thing that bugs me about the crossbow is it SHOULD smoke right through whatever it hits. I've got a 400 fps crossbow. Took a deer with it last year, went through ribs, lungs, more ribs, leg bone, and "landed somewhere out the back 40." Never recovered the bolt.

This being said, if I was shooting rotting corpses, and needed to recover bolts, I JUST might be smart enough to grab a lower powered model that *would* allow me to recover them. :)

The sightless AR thing. Firearms owners thought that was a goof (me included) when the Governor first raised that gun up, but they kept USING that gun later, sans-sight, and Daryls crossbow sight disappeared about the same time (as well as changing model suddenly.. also worth noting that same AR-15 was used on BOTH sides at some point.)

At that point they were 1 - 1.5 years in to the apocalypse. My theory was, it originally had an Eotech and the batteries ran out long ago, and batteries were the first to be plundered from stores... After that it's a paperweight, probably in the glovebox of one of those big national guard trucks. (Trying not to give spoilers.)

If you read the comics, the Governor portion, there was a National Guard Armory near Woodbury, that *both* sides looted gear and fuel from. Also, a Wal-mart. (If you haven't read the comics, go order them. They're GOOD. And worth a read simply to see what Michonne does to the Governor, after he does what he does to her.... man.. oh man.) :)

My big 'beef' with both the TV show and the comic, is reloading. In the comic, the authors get it all sorts of wrong. The concept of "reloading" hasn't shown up in the TV show yet (but it should be coming soon, this season, or next season). ALL of those homes they've looted in Georgia, and not a single frigging reloading bench? I call bull!

When / if they finally get there HOPEFULLY they get the reloading part right!

ETA: If there ever WERE a zombie apocalypse I'd probably be "that guy" who got eaten while policing brass after a shootout. "No, you idiots, PICK UP YOUR DANG BRASS!"

ETA #2: When I teach concealed carry classes, and ask which students are reloaders, if there ARE any, I caution/joke with them "if you ever get in a defensive shoot, DO NOT crawl around picking up your brass before the cops get there!"

Now that's an interesting rationale -- I like it. :)

When we were kids growing up 14-18 years old, i had one of the pump master pellet rifles. We nearly wore it out. At some point the sights broke off. But we had gotten so used to it that Arkansas Paul and myself was still smoking everything we aimed at. We went fishing in our favorite spot that was snake infested all the time. I mean they would fall into your boat out of trees. We started carrying that pellet rifle. On one trip one summer we killed right at 30 water moccasins with no sights. After 5 years i doubt Daryl has problems hitting a slow moving or stationary head at 5-25 feet.

Oh yeah.
We actually would shoot dragon flies out of the air as they hovered.

Man those were the days. When all we had to worry about was a couple dollars for gas in the go-cart and plenty of BBs. :)

So riddle me this...

I caught this last night as I am re-watching the series from episode 1 to current day

Andrea carried a S&W 3913 (a gift from her father) throughout season 1 into season 2, when Shane gives her a Beretta 92 instead, as it held more ammo (I'm pretty sure this is the same Beretta that Rick took off of the soldier in the tank). She continues to use the Beretta afterwards.

So when she is in the camper trapped by a zombie as a "herd" passes, the gun she is trying to re-assemble (and you see it just before at the table) is a Glock ..definitely not the sweet gun her father gave her..

Shane's primary sidearm pre and post zombies is a Glock 17. In several scenes he is cleaning it in the RV and perhaps left it there.

What did Beth take from the dead cop? A glock?

It looks like a S&W M&P. And this particular model apparently has some kind of magical zombie headshot setting, judging by Beth's sudden amazing 1-handed shooting ability. She doesn't even need to get a correct high grip on the pistol to use it with such fantastic marksmanship.

^^^ Yeah, that was pretty cheesy (it's pretty much a religion in this house). I love the series, but even I rolled my eyes at that one.

I didn't get a good look at the gun Beth took off of the cop but I want one just like it. Couldn't be a glock because there was no BTF and there is no way a gen 3 would have felt comfortable in her hand. Too slippery and the angle would be wrong.

What was that leather thing the cop chick beat the crap out of Beth with? Haven't seen one in years. What do you call that? A slap jack?

Sap. They used to be (decades ago) fairly standard fare for cops when they caught a perp and he needed to be convinced to surrender his right to a lawyer and to keep his yap shut.
They are very frowned upon now.
Usually ... ... ... .. . .

I remember seeing them way back when. IIRC some were elaborately made to match the uniform accessories. There was an additional piece of leather that would enhance the slap sound.

Probably wouldn't work well on TWD.

Occasionally, I'm in a bookstore or tchotchke store where they have those weights for holding down the pages of an open book while it's sitting on a table. They're usually strips of tanned leather with lead weights sewn into the ends.

Every time I see one, I think, "Sap..." :D

I caught myself counting rounds fired and consciously went "STOP IT YOU"RE GOING TO RUIN EVERYTHING"

Apparently an unskilled person is capable of some incredible feats of marksmanship, though. If I recall properly Beth didn't participate in the handgun training at the "farm", and couldn't shoot a rifle for crap at the prison. (She basically closed both eyes and squeezed the trigger spraying in to the air)

It dumbfounds me how these people can get consistent base of brain headshots on the run one handed with a pistol, but get in to a rifle fight at 35 yards and can't hit ANYTHING, even center of mass.....

:)

While Jerry Miculek (click on the link below) is practically superhuman with accuracy and speed, it is possible to make thos shots. I am not particularly surprized when Rick does it, but Beth was a surprise. Though she did have some one-on-one training with Daryl after they left the prison.

Also, I guess adrenaline (in this world) works better than it does in the real world.

That "base of brain" thing. At the Center for Disease Control we learned that the forebrain in a walker is completely non-functioning. So, how can a stab through through the temple that goes nowhere near the active part of a walker's brain terminate one? It requires the supposition that the walker disease renders the dura (brain covering) hyper-sensitive, so that any puncture wound or major impact halts the entire brain-stem functioning.

Also, the walker disease renders teeth and bone super-strong, but softens the skull considerably.

On a choice between "Reality TV" and this, "Unreality TV", I take this. (Please note that I recognize there is a LOT more in TV than just those to genres, I just posed the one choice.)

Enjoy THIS:

I just noticed the crossbow bolt in season 1! That's hilarious! It's not even in the groove so not attached to the string. Maybe it blew up and he found another similar one.
As far as aiming a crossbow with no sights I imagine that is quite easy. I spent my first 20 years of bow hunting without sights and my daughter shoots on the school archery team without sights. That is a compound but the idea should be the same. We called it "instinct" shooting back in the day.
I have been shooting firearms all my life and can't reliably make a good shot with a handgun I just picked up for the first time a little while ago. Don't bother checking if it's loaded or if you know how to operate the darned thing.
Of course I have never had a zombie attack me so what do I know.

If you look at the first picture of Daryl with the crossbow, it is loaded wrong.

They are also 2 different crossbows in those pics.

I kinda liked the aluminum baseball bat suppressor that Carl was using last season.
At some point, I think the assault on Woodbury, Daryl lost his crossbow and it was replaced when Carol (I think) found him a new one. In season 2, Daryl is shown crafting new bolts for his crossbow while staying at Hershel's farm. And although the bolts would zip clean through, it's a zombie show so some suspension of disbelief has to be exercised.
Carl's suppressor (early season 3) is actually a Maglight body stripped down.

The weapons are generally done very well, with a few flubs. While at Terminus, Rick referee to his Python as a .44 magnum. It was made clear even back in season 1 it was a .357 when Shane had a few spare rounds in his bag.

Glad Michonne got her sword back, and can't wait to find out what happens with Carol and Beth.

Big fan of the show if you couldn't tell.

Dont know if THIS has been mentioned

I love the show, I forgive any faults but I am both grossed out and surprised at this

How many times have we seen Daryl retrieve an arrow from a dead zombies brain only to see that arrow held in his teeth a minute of so later ? Besides the ICK factor, why doesn't he get as infected as if he were bit ?

Also, why do zombie brains splattered to the face, in the eyes, in the mouth, etc. not infect you like a bite or a scratch ? I guess if they wanted to keep it (the show) going they just had to overlook that...LOL

While rick mentioned a 44 Magnum, I imagined that was a different gun. If I were Rick, I would have not named the Python at all, talking to an adversary as he was.

I am a big fan of the show, as well. Not only do I like the story lines (most of them), but I thoroughly enjoy picking apart the tactical, factual and biological absurdities, too. It is great sport.

We called it "instinct" shooting back in the day.
We used to call it "Bare Bow". Regional differences in terminology?

pretty sure it's a baseball bat

I have seen a few AR's with no sights, or sights on backwards. Rick holds his revolver ridiculous. There all British...it's not their fault.

Where did they find all the full auto AK 47s?
DUHH there converted! Its the zombie apocalypse. Screw the NFA. haha
