I complained about our range doubling its annual membership, going from $35 to $75 a year and was immediately chastised by a club officer. He told me that our member fees are cheap and that the daily fee for guests of $10 is also very inexpensive.

We have a very nice outdoor facility that includes six pistol bays, three rifle bays, skeet, trap and a 1,000-yard rifle range. There are a few odd specialty bays for things like cowboy action. We also have a nice clubhouse, range office and paid range officers.

But, it seemed to me that more than doubling the membership dues and doubling the guest daily fee was kind of drastic.

However, I'll shut up if it is really cheap compared to the rest of the country.

What does it cost to join or just visit a range in your area? (What is the area, as well, please?)

5 bays, two 25 yard pistol, one 100 yard without benches, one 100 yard with benches, one 150 yard with benches, all bays covered, cleaned every morning by city employees.
Oh, cost? Zero, it's free.

DIY on a mountain-side - Free. :neener:

It sounds like you're getting a decent deal though. If I had an employee-run 1000 yard range, I'd, well, I'd buy more guns.

Every range around here is $100.00/year minimim, there's a new one going up near Boston that will be $200.00/year :what:

Local indoor range has 15 x 25yd pistol lanes and 3 x 100 yd rifle lanes.

Cost is $11 per hour on pistol, $13 per hour on rifle, or you can get a years membership for $225, after which you can go as often and as long as you want, no more fees.

Free here in Kansas. Load my cases and step out the door and shoot. I've never seen a range. Nothing close to me that i know of. This is handy though especially if i'm wanting to load a few of a bunch of different loads.

Per person it's $40 per year or $150 for five years. There is also a family special, $50 for one year or $140 for 3 years.

The range regularly runs IDPA, plus there is a dedicated pistol range and a rifle range with targets from 200 yards out to the range max of 600 yards.

10 bux for a hour maybe a bit less for a half hour for two people.

We dont care about the range fees. Only learned to maintain and make ready before opening that door. Once you sign in to shoot, charges go onto the clock.

I dont mind spending time at the range with the spouse. It helps them put meat on the table and stay in business. So it's all good.

Compared to bowling it's about the same cost. Now... when you figure in ammuntion at a buck a shot etc... then we talk money yah?

Ya know... if you run a budget and keep your monthy household at a healthy profit with no debts beyond 20% of your total spending (Or better, no debt) then you should not have to be worried about the hourly range fees or whatever fees it is to shoot.

Now, if you ask about what it cost for a year fee or a life time fee then it's 500 for year and 700 lifetime and we have a problem with that. Those are for EACH person. No way. Why? We dont shoot enough to justify it... yet.

The range we found is FREE.
It's maintained by our DNR but it's not manned.
Nice little range up in the mountains
and it has never been busy except for one time.
Usually, we have the place to ourselves or just one or two more shooters.

We simply go during the week as I suspect by now it's REAL full on
Saturdays. (Gate is locked on Sundays, so it's closed).

There are two places I usually go. One is a private campground/range that has a $30/year membership, the other is public and is funded entirely by donations, so I usually give $5 when I go, more if it's an all day affair. Yeah, Vermont's awesome like that.

I shoot at a free range my employer owns that is only a couple minutes from my office. A nice range, with 1000yd rifle range, I would jump at paying your cost or much more even though I have free shorter range. That price is quite a steal! I had thought about joining a hunting club for $500 b/c I can setup a 1000yd range (long roads) to shot at outside of deer season on the 1800 acres they own, I don't hunt.
