What are some fun targets to use for target practice?

Zombies. Nuff said.

Zombies wander around too much. I prefer to put their severed heads on posts for bench rest shooting.

I like cherry tomatos for .22 practice. Small animals always appreciate the leftovers, too.

I use small brightly colored balloons for teaching kids and newbies, since they're easy to hit and the feedback is easy to see.

When I was a kid, I would set up my little army soldiers in the back yard and snipe at them with a bb gun.

Model airplanes hung from trees were fun too.

Water balloons
Helium balloon tied to a RC car, moving target
crackers

a personal favorite, if you have the right soil, dirt clods, nice puff when you hit it.

Targets

Hot glue strings to paintballs suspend them from a cross beam (binder clips work well for this) If you hang a piece of paper behind them it gives you a better reaction. At 100 yard with the .17 HMR and the .22 are challenging.

Paper mache (probably misspelled that badly) alien with tannerite in his chest. You can find the video on utube probably.

yeah dirt clods are fun, till your buddy says 'bet that wasn't the one you were aiming at though' ;) yeah we like to pick alot here

I'm going to second the tennis ball idea. Someone left one at the pistol range the other day and I was like humm random tennis ball. They hadn't shot at it but it tossed it out on the ground and was like lets see what a .45 will do to it. It punched thru and moved it around quiet a bit. The more I shot at it the further away it rolled toward the backstop so each time it was a bit more of a challenge. I was completely surprised at how much it took and still wasn't destroyed.

Full can of hairspray with birthday candles taped to it and lit. Pellet gun is sufficient to pierce. Impressive fireball, no shrapnel.

Do not do this in your laundry room.

Hello!
I have bought a pneumatic gun (Webley&Scott "FX-2000") recently!
firstly I use my daily papers, but now I use plastic eggs from candies (like Kinder Surprise)!!!
its tasty and funny

We had some fun in the 70's with an old Rambler (with no engine), an M-16, an old Winchester lever action, and a 12 ga pump. But you probably don't have any old Ramblers just sittin around in the back pasture.

I've actually bought a ham and hung it from a tree just to test a few rounds on. Much too expensive of a target now. Kinda like the rambler was then.

I've always liked those cheap, round lollypops you can get at a five & dime store. They're bright, biodegradable, there's no question when you hit one, and they come with their own target stands. You can buy a box of 300 for $23, so that comes out to about eight cents per target.

I liked shooting at rocks, when the bullet ricochetts it makes a PIEEeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww sound. Like you hear in old westerns. A word on safety though, not a good idea to purposely ricochette bullets if your not in a vast open area. I did this in Nevada. in that state you could drive 100 miles or so down some dirt road and see no sign of civilization. out at these old uranium mines, to get there you would leave civilization and drive for a good hour down a dirt road seeing nothing but rock formations and wild horses. I would get a good sized rock and aim so my bullet glanced off of it at maybe a 10 degree angle, if you hit it just right il will make a loud whizzzzz kinda sound

Shooting necco wafers w/a .22 is fun. .I also found lots of free downlodable targets by googling 'free targets'.
I'll have to check google out.
We used to get dartboards checkerboards etc to shoot at with bows from a friend who had a print shop. fun times with the kids ;)

Coleman single use propane tanks are really fun to shoot

They're not the most cost effective at about $5 each but it's worth getting a couple every so often. They don't explode but do make a nice pop and can sometimes propel themselves about 20-30 feet. It's best to shoot them from at least 50 yards away with nobody else around.

I though shooting propane tanks was a lot of fun until one flew over my camper on fire! This is not a good idea (It was fun though).

Thanx, Russ

For ranges that don't allow bottles or cans, Aspirins glued to a cardboard box or backer make for a fun challenge. They turn to dust when hit. For private property or an outdoor range with that might allow it, try igniting the top of a road flare with a bullet strike. It makes for an impressive stunt.

I have about 200 of them.

That will be when it warms up ... golf for men!!
ok, whats a golf ball do when hit??

We used to have fun when I was little finding golf balls dad had cut open with the haybine, they were full of rubber string. Take one in the house and finish cutting it out of the hull, turn it loose and it'd bounce all over the house unwinding ;) Round 2 was when mom come home and found three rooms of the house covered in rubber string :D
