I just picked up a Palmetto State Armory 2nd gen AK-47.They have taken some of the best ideas and built them into their new rifle it's getting great reviews.............

Go visit YouTube and look at reviews by The AK Operators Union.
These guys love AK's but hate shoddy copies. It's well worth your time.

The Arsenals seem to be good and are on my list. Only problem is there are so many darn model numbers it is hard to pick out the minor details.

The SAM7R-51 is the basic SAM with a WARSAW-length stock.

The -61 is identical to the -51, but it has an intermediate-length stock. And the -66 is the same as the -61, but with a quad rail up front.

The SAM7SF-84 is the basic side-folder, and the SAM7UF-85 is the basic underfolder.

Depending on your LOP, the -51 or -61 is the one you'd want for a basic, classic AK.

Thanks for the info. I do not want a under-folder or side folder

Is a intermediate stock longer that a Warsaw?? I never cared for the real short stocks whatever they are?.

I like more of a standard length rifle stock like a 30 carbine kinda length.

The AK union videos are great. They guy Rob is a riot:D, he does some really good videos, No boring stuff from him!

Yes, the intermediate is a little longer than the Warsaw (what K-Var/Arsenal calls their "standard" AK stock). The -71 comes with a NATO-length (the longest), as well, but they only have it in plum.

If you buy one and want a different length stock, K-Var sells them for about $60, and I'm sure you could find used ones for less on an AK-specific forum.

Another suggestion: NOS SLR95. No side rail, have to replace the thumbhole BUT this is the rifle Arsenal built their name on

GuitarsAndGuns: Good idea to remind people about "The Gun" by Mr. Chivers.

He was a USMC Infantry Captain before he became a writer with the New York Times.
This book also describes what appears to be a very sloppy, informal back yard barbeque process for part of the DOD's selection of the M-16.

Having read only short excerpts, it appears to be quite a book with detailed research on both the classic AK and the classic AR/M-16.

Wanted to share my current AK setups. Saiga 308 and Slr107. both are set up with kvar side mounts and decent scopes. Today the Saiga gave me a 5.5" four shot group at 200 meters and two consecutive gong hits to prove it. Surplus fmj ammo I think portuguese. I am quite happy with these two though I have let others go I regret.View attachment 754081
